Meet Slick!

The King is Dead…Long Live the King!

Our Potentate of Pigskin Prognostication, The Victim is no longer with us. We’d promised our fearless forecasting friend we’d allow a name change, to something more respectable, should he put together a second consecutive winning season of beating the point spread. Lo and behold, grabbing the Giants and the points in Super Bowl XLII placed The Victim on the plus side of the wagering ledger, thereby pulling the plug on his former persona and years of abuse.

The choice was all his, a chance to discard that derisive moniker that had dogged this lovable loser through years of gambling ineptitude and replace is with a name that demanded respect. He could have become something regal, majestic. The King. The Wizard. The Prince of Pigskin. Anything…the possibilities were endless.

And after 6-months to think on it, what did The Victim decide to be reborn as? Slick! You know what they say: Once a loser…..

On with Slick’s Picks:

Washington (+4 ½) over NY Giants

2007 Record: 53-51-2
2006 Record: 59-41
2005 Record: 3-4

Sorry but I think Slick is gonna start the season 0-1. Washington's offense is pathetic right now and I doubt a coach in his very first NFL game in Zorn is going to be able to fix his "O" with a defending SB champ playing in front of their home crowd with a huge chip on their shoulders.... I'd take the Giants laying the 4 1/2 (I think they win by at least 7 and probably closer to 10-14) and I think I'm inclined to go with the under on this one too.

Guess I should've put some money on my prediction, eh?? LOL

You were dead on with that one, DB. Maybe if Slick keeps stumbling, we'll call on you out of the bullpen!

Sure - as long as I'd only have to pick one game a week! (and I'd have to have my own cool nickname- something with an animal in the name like "Vinny The Fish" or something "Vegas-sounding" LOL)

I usually average about 70-75% straight-up and around 60% or so vs the spread but, of course, if money were on the line I'd expect those percentages to drop REALLY fast. Maybe that's why all those guys with the $50 "Lock of a lifetime" on Saturday morning TV are doing so well? They make enough off of the suckers calling for the advice that they never have to bet!

That's the amazing thing about what The Victim did 2-years ago, posting a 59-42 mark against the spread. He doesn't just pick one game, his bet of the week. I make him choose ALL the television games, whether he likes it or not. So while I have an awful lot of fun at his expense, a documented record 17-games over .500 has to rank up there as one of the greatest gambling seasons in history. Wouldn't you think?
