Ellsbury Keeps on Running

Former Lowell Spinner Jacoby Ellsbury swiped his league-leading 28th base of the season in the third inning tonight. That’s the second-highest total by a Red Sox rookie in club history. Amby McConnell stole 31 bases 100 years ago to set the current record.
Ellsbury is now more than halfway to the club record of 54, set by Tommy Harper back in 1973. Harper is Ellsbury’s baserunning mentor.
“We’ve got to slow him down!” Harper joked earlier this evening about the threat to his 35-year-old record. “It’s not even the All-Star break yet!”

Jacoby Ellsbury is the breath of fresh air that the RedSox NEED especially seeing that Big Papi will most likely be out of the line up at least four weeks. Is current Batting Average is .284 and just like he did against the Rays he finds a way to get on. He did not get a base hit, but he did get on base via Base on Balls and then stole his 28th stolen base of the season. He has ONLY Been caught three times on the young season. He will set stolen base records starting with the RedSox and then it will eventually carry over to all of MLB. He is still a Young player, but make not mistake about it he is the REAL DEAL! He plays great defense to boot. He will be roaming the fenway outfield and stealing bases for many years in Boston.
