Around the Bases

The Red Sox have won six straight games at Fenway going into tonight’s game against the Royals. With a 17-5 record at Fenway, the Sox boast the best home record in the majors.
The Sox are batting .306 with a .387 on-base percentage at Fenway. Overall the Sox are leading the majors with a .295 team average, nine points better than the Cubs. The last time the Red Sox had a team batting average this high after 46 games was 1956.
Is Manny Ramirez too anxious to get to 500 homers? At first he predicted he reach that plateau by the end of April. He has hit only two homers in his last 24 games and remains stuck on 498. He’s also hit only .222 over the last 19 games.
The American League’s two best hitters are going head to head tonight. KC’s Mark Grudzielanek is leading the league with a .331 average, and Kevin Youkilis is just two points behind at .329.
Youkilis leads the AL in slugging percentage (.605) and multiple-hit games (19) and is tied for first in extra-base hits (26) with Texas’ Josh Hamilton.
