A Fenway Rarity

Jon Lester’s no-hitter tonight against the Royals was only the fourth ever thrown by a lefthander in Fenway Park’s 97-year history. It was the first since Red Sox southpaw Mel Parnell pitched one against the White Sox on July 14, 1956.
The first no-hitter by a lefty was thrown by Red Sox knuckleballer Dutch Leonard against the St. Louis Browns on Aug. 30, 1916. The only no-hitter every thrown by a visiting lefty at Fenway came on Apr. 24, 1917, when the Yankees’ George Mogridge performed the feat.
