OK…can’t do it any longer. I’ve bitten my tongue (or should I say typing fingers) as long as is humanly possible…been patient…given the benefit of the doubt…tried to be optimistic. No more. I have to finally say what I’ve been thinking for a while now;
It’s time for Peter Chiarelli to go!!!
Understand now, I’ve made no secret of my wish to see entirely new ownership come in and run the Bruins. They could bring in the Almighty himself to run the Black and Gold, and as long as Jeremy Jacobs owns the team, they still wouldn’t win the Stanley Cup. Even if the man upstairs was available to be GM, the man upstairs in the Boston Garden offices probably wouldn’t fork over enough dough to hire him.
Remember; Chiarelli was not the Bruins first choice for the job. Ray Shero was. But talks collapsed because; A) Jacobs made a lowball offer B) Jacobs wouldn’t give Shero enough control or C) Both of the above. Enter Chiarelli. And the rest, as they say, is history!
Now, you might say a year and a half is nowhere near enough time to properly evaluate a General Manager. I’d say you’re probably correct. However, I’d also say that badly misfiring on your first coaching hire (Dave Lewis) and not exactly inspiring the masses with your second (Claude Julien) is not an exhibition of sound judgment. Even worse, committing $4-million a year to Manny Fernandez is simply inexcusable in this day and age of an NHL salary cap. Scan the rest of the roster, and you can see why Mayor Menino isn't likely to start mapping out a parade route in June.
I realize this emotional post comes on the heels of a terrible 8-2 loss to the dreaded Montreal Canadiens. But damn…losing to the Habs all 6-times this year and 9-times in a row? Come on now! Have we entered a time machine and traveled back to the 70’s and 80’s? Lying down like dogs to a division rival spanking you like a red-headed stepchild all year is a sign of a team about to go in the tank. Sound familiar? It should. That’s what they did over the second half of 2006-2007.
I’m not sure who’d come in. I’m not sure it would matter as long as Jacobs was the man bringing him in. But I believe we’ve seen enough evidence that Peter Chiarelli isn’t the right man for this job. (Is anyone?) It’s time for him to be shown the door. And if he somehow takes Jeremy Jacobs out the door with him, he’ll have a street named in his honor and go down as the greatest GM in Bruins history!
That’s the view from Mt Olympus…how do you see it? Am I overreacting to a bad loss? Are the Bruins on the right track? Or is this team going nowhere in a hurry? Gayle, is this rant enough to wake you from your slumber?

Any idea what the Bruins are worth these days? I imagine they're near the top of NHL franchises. No doubt Jacobs will hold onto his cash cow for a long time yet. The only way to get him to sell (perhaps) would be to stop showing up at the Garden....
I'm sure Chiarelli is cheap so he'll never be shown the door- probably the same with Julien. The Fernandez thing and then not trying to do anything to replace an injured Bergeron with a decent shot at the playoffs has Chiarelli's motives in question. If he's trying to build why sign Fernandez... If he's trying to contend now why not use your exemption to add a good centerman knowing Bergeron is very likely done for the year??
Who could do this job? I guess, step #1, is stay away from anyone who's been in Toronto as the Leafs are a bigger mess than the B's. Need to bring in someone like Regier and/or Ruff from Buffalo. Need to find someone who's constructed a good "new NHL" team from the ground up because you need to have solid youngsters along with a sprinkling of good vets. IF the B's were truly interested in winning that's the type of guy they'd need. As you say- as long as Jacobs is there it will likely not happen.
The Habs thing is just sad. The Habs can just dress guys with last names starting with "K" and fill in with AHL guys and still beat the B's the way things are going. Even sadder since the Habs themselves are not having a great year (except their power play). I'll bet they wish the B's were on their schedule a whole lot more!! One thing to lose to the other teams in the league but it's just not excusable to lose this many in a row to the Habs. Especially since it's not like they have Patrick Roy in goal or anything. Isn't "Huet" one of Donald Duck's nephews?? LOL.

Gayle, I agree with you 100%!

Teddy,
From your lips to God's ears.
DB, you've already spent way tooo much time thinking about the Bruins.
THEY ARE DEAD TO ME.
I work 2 blocks form the GARDEN and when ever I see folks going to a bruins game I just shake my head, BRUINS FANS ARE 1/2 the problem. They can't tell when they are being screwed.

Teddy as you and Gayle both know I am not a Hockey or a Bruins expert and even I know that the Bruins problems this season should NOT entirely lay on Chiarelli's shoulders! Firing Chiarelli would Not suddenly ensure the Bruins a playoff team. Burgeron's injury among others and just lack of having Great talent is the Black N' Gold's issues. When it all comes down to it, its up to the Players to get it done not the management. The last time I checked the players are actually the ones that skate on the ice and oh yeah score the goals.

And who assembled the players who can't get the job done?
