Feeling better now, Red Sox Nation?
Two wins over the pathetic Devil Rays (still play them 7-more times)…a pair of New York losses in Anaheim (the Yankees should pitch Mussina every 3rd day)...and just like that, the lead is back to 6-games. Trust me when I tell you, it’s only going to get bigger. The Sox will win the East by at least 8-games when all is said and done.
Just look at those faces in the dugout...that's a beaten team, not just last night, but for the year. And I'm willing to bet deep down inside, Joe Torre and company know it!
I don't care how close the Evil Empire got, they're not good enough to beat Boston this year. Their pitching stinks. Phillip Hughes isn't ready. Pettitte, Clemens and Mussina are only going to get worse as the innings pile up. And it doesn't matter how hard Joba Chamberlain throws...it does them no good when their starter is toast by the 2nd inning.

Couldn't agree more Ted. In their last 10 games (in which they've started playing teams that are not awful) they are 5-5. Killing the crap teams of the AL (see KC) never impressed me. The Sox just need to get the lineup going (see exiling Drew) and they should coast.

The Yankees maybe old but they still do have good pitching and Great offense so they will do their best to keep it close, But this is they year the sox will Finally overtake them for the division and to add salt to the wound the Yanks wont even make the playoffs. This year the Evil Empire will be in a galaxy far far away come October, yeah sure its called at home watching the playoffs.

Pitching and defense wins championships, Sox are #3 in AL in fielding % and we know how good their pitching is.
Wang's stats are catching up with him, you don't last long giving up more hits than innings pitched. Mussina is garbage Clemens and Pettitte are up and down and the Yankees bullpen is a laughingstock.
Yanks outfield defense is hilarious as well, Melky takes the most interesting routes to fly balls and Matsui can't catch a cold.
The Yanks may make the playoffs some way somehow, but they won't last long.....

Allright...15 votes are in so far, and the results show 20% of you say the Yankees will win the division. That means 3-of-15 think the Yanks will win.
Who are you guys? Please identify yourself and try to give me a logical explanation for why you voted the way you did after watching both these teams perform for nearly 5-months now...one that doesn't involve something along the lines of; "The Yankees always win...the Red Sox are chokers...blah-blah-blah."
Please, help me see the light!

Yankees fan here. Not going to concede the division until after we see what happens this week. Even if the Sox win the east, New York is in great shape for the wild card. Easy schedule for them. Mariners still have to play Anaheim, Cleveland and Detroit, not to mention Oakland. Then we can resume this discussion in the playoffs.

Save yourself the trouble of watching this week...Boston is going to put the final nail in the coffin.
But I will agree that you're in pretty good shape in the wild card hunt, thanks to an easier schedule than Seattle. That said, the Yanks haven't been consistent all year. It would not shock me to see them play like the old, washed up men they are and blow even the consolation prize.
