Toivonen's Back

Posted by Gayle Simone, Sun Staff

Peter Chiarelli was true to his word - Hannu Toivonen played all three games for Providence this past weekend and the young goaltender was recalled to Boston today.

Toivonen played a total of 5 games for the Baby Bs and compiled a 1-4-0 record - not that good IMO.

With the move, Philippe Sauve was assigned to Providence - looks like the Bs will carry 3 goalies for a bit since Brian Finley is still with the big club.
According to the Bs website, Tim Thomas should get the start tomorrow night when the Bruins take on Toronto.

Darcy Tucker has told reporters that he is ready and willing for a rematch with Paul Mara.

I give props to Mara for defending two of his teammates when he took on Tucker the other night.

Do you think Hannu spent enough time in Providence? Is he ready and back to form? Do you care?

Witnessed first hand Hannau for providence at lowell and I can honestly say..he should stay there. Not ready! He was missing shots left and right and if it wern't for some dumb luck this game should have been a laugher. The dev's were in gear but thats no excuse for shots whissing by you and not having a clue where they are coming from...they guy just doesn't look hungry anymore.

I was at the game too and the first thing I said when I got back to the newsroom was that he looked horrible - Thank God it was confirmed Thomas is starting tonight in Toronto

I too was at the Lowell game. The Finnish Failure (how do you like that nickname) just looked flat and disoriented. He wasnt seeing shots. He looked uninspired. Granted Lowell looked great (someone please tell me Frank Doyle isnt Brodeur's replacement when he goes after this season), but Toivonen just looked awful. Only thing I can possibly think of is that a trade is in the immediate future and the Bruins need him up to make it. It says a lot when the Bruins continue to carry 3 goalies. From what I understand, once Finley is healthy, they have no plans to send him down. Thomas looks great, and maybe the B's are going to get an upgrade or two on D or up front, and ride the Thomas momentum til it fades.

Just my opinion.

Marty signed an extension for six years and at cheap money..barring an injury he'll play as long as he wants.

Hannu Toivenen in my opinion is not ready to come back and play for the bruins. They are better off sticking with Finley as there back up for now.Tim Thomas really deserves to be the starting goalie, especially with his last two performences against Toronto.Tim Thomas is the BEST.
Go Bruins Go,(and tim thomas :))
