As you guys continue the lively debate about whether Damon, Pedro, Arroyo and others were disrespected by the Red Sox, I’ll post some direct quotes from Damon for you to chew on. But first, let me remind you how a class organization really operates.
When the Patriots sever ties with a beloved veteran contributor we don’t hear “anonymous sources saying how Willie McGinest is too old and too injury prone, or how he’s not worth the kind of money he’s asking for. Instead, they issue a message of thanks and wish them well, with no further comment. The Red Sox go into KGB propaganda mode, whispering about bad shoulders and injuries that make any long-term contract “too risky while making below market offers that are improved on only after it’s clear someone else is willing to pay more and there’s no way they’ll have to pay the money.
That’s my take…here’s Damon’s:
“After they didn't come to me during the [2005] season, my loyalty to them wasn't there anymore either. I felt the loyalty from them was gone. ...Unfortunately, the loyalty of the fans always stays. You try not to be bitter through life, because I've learned you just shouldn't be that way. I've learned to accept it. I hope the [Red Sox] fans accept it, because now another guy they loved is gone."
"They have their plans, and they have their computers, and they believe that's right," Damon said. "Unfortunately, computers don't judge a person's heart. Getting along with the younger kids and helping them along, unfortunately, computers don't [evaluate] that. As important as I was to that team, Billy Mueller was just as important. Kevin Millar was just as important. Certain players have numbers that might be sexy, but what's lost is when you get a good core of guys, it goes under the radar."

Excuse me while I puke!
Okay, now that I've caught my breath, what's wrong with players who have all the aforementioned intangibles but are young and healthy as well? What's wrong for opting for the total package when competing against a team in the same division with unlimited resources? Do you make a choice, or do you remain loyal? Do you fall in love with players and keep them at any cost?
Think about this, say the Sox matched the Yankees and gave Damon and Pedro the money they were given in NY, would they then have the financial flexibilty to make any other moves? Probably not. Isn't it their perogative to make the decisions for what they think is best for the organization?
Granted, they could have signed them before they became free agents, but frankly, the risk was too high for the whole league except our bro's from the Bronx.
Johnny got his loyalty in the bank. There's nothing wrong with that, but can you please stop your whining ladies!

Well we can test Ted's theory about the Pats (but I concur with his statement)....we'll see what they say about Adam V. tomorrow because I heard at 5:00 he's going going gone!
To the Colts no less...hmm indoors, kicking against the Pats...I feel queazy already.

Now there's some quotes from a real baseball player playing for a real baseball team. You're damn right it's nothing but class and respect. Funny thing is that they never show this kind of respect when they're in a Red Sox uniform. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

All of "todays" ballplayers think that respect = $$$$$$$$$. Hey good luck to them all because the owners are dishing it out like ice cream, at a Rosie ODonnell pity party!
Nothing like "Hot Stove, Cool Music, Don't let the door hit you on the back side!' To get the juices going in the world of baseball!! Sorry *Barry* no pun intended there....

Speaking of the Pats can anyone down at the "Corner" kick field goals? What the flip is going on with our Pats? They are dropping like flies. Hopefully Scot and Bill have a back up plan to rebuilding a DYNASTY!

Luv reading the back and forth between Sox and Yanks fans. I think it's safe to say we all agree that sports is business, and that the only thing players and owners are loyal to is money.
But T2, you have to stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Teddy is right. Red Sox fans are very anti-player. Whether it's jealousy, or what, you criticize guys for taking the money while defending poor owners who risk their money. Please, owning the Red Sox is a license to print money. The city of Boston is bending over backward and giving Henry anything he wants, even screwing surrounding property owners. The only risk to John Henry is the green dye rubbing off on his skin.
Please, don't pity poor mister Henry for having to compete with the big bad yankees. He makes more than enough money, and he makes that money off the players and off New England fans love of the Red Sox, not because he's a genius at running a baseball team. If you don't believe me, go ask the people of Florida what they think of him.
Last time I checked, no one went to fenway to see Henry, Theo or Luchino....you go to see Papi, Schilling, Manny, and yes, Pedro and Damon too. Yes, Henry and every other owner has a right to make a buck. So do the players who bust their hump for him. So T2 and all you guys upset that Pedro and Damon dumped you for more money, cheer up. Someday, another company might pay you more money to go flip burgers at their place.

Also remember that with free agency nobody, nobody stays loyal anymore. Not owners, not players not even fans. If a player stays with a team longer than five years it means they are either over paid or just too valuable to lose. Just imagine if Yaz wasn't tight with the Yawkeys he might have finished his hall of fame career with the Royals...the Yawkey trust saved us from losing an icon. Owners and players alike are out for themselves and for the big bucks and that is that.

Welcome Tito, glad to have another victim to respond to. FYI, I've never lamented over the loss of Damon or Pedro, as their definition of respect has always been all about the dead presidents. I don't see as many anti-player fans writing on blogs, as I see anti-management sentiments. All I'm saying is it's a two way street. The blame can be shared. But when victims like yourselves are coming to the rescue of the players who don't even want to sign your autographs, in turn their wrath to the owners because they are the easier targets. Granted, owners have made their own beds and must sleep in them. But generally people fear what they do not know and are unable to relate to people like John Henry because nobody writing on these blogs has ever made the sacrifices and the business decisions required to get to that position.
Especially you Robin Hood types who just sit there critiquing and second guessing the people they envy most from the local library computers. The people who work the hardest are the ones to blame. While others sit back and complain how unfair everything is and feel they are entitled to more. Who busts their humps to play a game? I bust my hump playing pick up basektball 2-3 times a week, and would kill to do so for the type of money today's player's demand. Are you kidding me?
As for people in Florida, have they learned to count ballots yet? God knows they make a killer Kool-Aid.

I love it when T2 chimes in. T2, how in the world do you have any idea about little John Henry's sacrifices and business decisions that he's had to endure? At least we all know about the dedication your putting forth, but don't tell me what I've sacrificed or business decisions I"ve made.
You just let us know that you certainly are not putting forth any effort to sacrifice and you probably don't make any business decisions. My question, how can you possibly speak of the business behind baseball when you have no business experience or your not willing to sacrifice to gain that experience?

I don't feel bad for the players or the owners. They're in it to make the most money they can before the curtain closes. When does it stop being about the love of the game and start being about re$pect? I don't know about the rest of you out there in glass houses, but I'd play for food and beer and bust my ass from dawn till dusk. Then again if I was good enough to get paid millions, well let's just say you better start backing up the brinks truck cause I'm asking for the motherload. As for the owners, they're making a ton of money and they want more. Can't say I really blame them. We all have to remind ourselves of why it's called "fantasy baseball".

That's my point, I don't pretend to know what is right and what is wrong. What is black and what is white, as you like to put it. Arm chair quarterbacks, like yourself, have no idea what it takes to run a business of that magnitude, and to deal with the agents, players, media and fans. Not to mention having that kind of money. Yet you sit there with an absolute self righteous opinion that nobody is supposed to disagree with. Rather than make some valid arguments and provide some food for thought. I have yet to hear anything inteligent validating your points, other than "boys will be boys" and other childish analogies. Could you please answer one question for me? What color is the sky in your world?

T2, I'll provide some food for thought. I'll even go as far as predictions. The sox are going to implode. It's already begun. It stems only from management. The Yankees are going to slaughter them this year. This also stems directly from management. You want me to draw up an analysis for you?

If the Yankees don't slaughter the Sox they'll be a major disappointment to "The Boss"... he's already made that prediction. Wouldn't it be nice for someone other than the Yankees to win it all again after spending ridiculous money AGAIN!!! Chew on that food for thought!! Go Blue Jays!!!

I'm guessing T2 is a business owner and that a couple of his illegal alien workers quit on him cause they didn't want to work for slave wages anymore. God, talk about pro business!
What you fail to realize my friend is that no one pays to see the owners or you in your YMCA pickup games. We pay to see people who have a talent you and I can only dream of. And I'll bet if you had that kind of talent, you'd be just as eager to make as much money as you could instead of busting your hump so some spoiled little businessman can rake in billions of dollars.
Remember that next time you're at the Y playing in front of those empty seats.

What more could I ask for than to get George HR to finally admit he is a Yankee fan. I knew it had to be either that or a free loader with a guilty conscience. It wasn't so much about how they treated Arroyo. You could care less, you PRETENDER.
I appreciate the humor of your predictions as well. Especially when trying to demean Sox management. What organization's management are you comparing them to? Steinbrenners? There's no way the Yanks are going to slaughter the anybody with any pitching. Besides that, the Yanks have absolutely NO PITCHING. My prediction: They will be as entertaining in the post season as your postings are on this blog. Come out strong, go home early.
And Tito, although the days of fans in the stands have passed, I never expected anybody to watch me play either. All I said was busting your hump to earn your million dollars shouldn't get you a medal of honor. It's something honest hard working folk do every day! Not to mention there are people busting their humps in the military everyday, and they don't get half the sympathy these million dollar babies get. Truly pathetic state of society we live in. And you both truly exemplify that.
You guys just keep giving players the sympathy they're due. I'm sure these players appreciate it. Winners.

I really could care less about Arroyo. I love it when this management team acts like this. There is no sympathy. Arroyo was screwed by management. Theo's a snake and it's going to bite them in the end. One things for sure. If you listen to the players from the Yanks and the Sox, seems that the Yanks are having a little fun right now while the Sox are in a bit of dissaray. The players aren't happy on the sox and management keeps doing stupid things to keep it that way. How do you not get this? Remember when the sox won it???? The team was "a group of idiots" I don't know how many times I had to listen to announcers tell me how loose they were in practice. That's why they won.
Well, you management loving fool, don't count on much of anything this year. By the way, Sox fans are the true morons if you're the poster boy. Sorry guys, but this is your representative? Please

I love how pathetic Yankee fans have to resort to picking apart the Sox, rahter than looking forward to the Yankee season ahead. What's the matter George, does it make you feel better to sh*t on the Sox? I wonder why that is. Perhaps it due to the fact that although the Yanks have the largest payroll, they still have no pitching and S*CK! HA HA HA HA HA ! ! ! ! ! Enjoy the regular season, cause in the playoffs, it's pitching that matters, and you ain't got NONE, losers.
