    Democrats Are Back!

It's amazing how America's government can change overnight without a single gunshot being fired. The ballot is more powerful than the bullet in our civilized, democratic nation and it is the greatest gift our Founding Fathers ever gave us.
Election Day 2006 proved to be a repudiation of President George Bush's policies, particularly his adminstration's handling of the war in Iraq, and the national Republican Party.
The Democrats, without a plan for anything, made it clear a change was in order. They have regained controlled of the U.S. House and are on the verge of winning control of the U.S. Senate, if tight races in Montana and Virginia continue to lean their way when absentee votes are counted.
The cleansing purge of government is good. The Republicans over the past two years have squandered opportunities to do anything right, from energy policy to immigration reform. And Bush's "stay the course" philosophy in Iraq just didn't cut it with a weary-of-war America.
It was a good wake-up call, delivered coast to coast.
Democrats now have a chance to change the leadership direction. To be successful, they will have to offer solutions. For too long, they've been the "attack" party to the GOP agenda. If they don't develop sound policies, they will most likely fall victim two years from now when Americans head to the polls to elect a new president.
The voters won on Tuesday. And freedom and liberty triumphed for all the world to see.

It seems they could start with immigration reform. It seems only the House stood in the way of the Kennedy-McCain bill which the president supported.

With that in place, much of the fallout issues that we face in the State and City would have a realistic chance to get addressed.

Will the SUN editorial board support such a solution?

    Right on the issue's DEMOCRAT'S...
I love you Jim, even though your a
    replubican, finally the people spoke.
We need big change in this country,
for people, not for the rich and famous.
George Bush dosen't have a clue about
working for a living, or does he have
a clue about the war in Iraq.

It is amazing how little the Republican party did when it had control of the house, senate and the presidency. They had many years to get alot done but squandered it in a mire of indecision and corruption.

Congress needed an enema and it sure got it.

Now we get back to a true two-party system again. If Bush is smart, he'll cooperate with the opposing Congress much like Clinton did. But, Bush is a pretty stubborn guy who has repeatedly shut out any opposing views. So I don't know if he'll be smart enough to cooperate.

You make a very good point. The Democrats have an opportunity to get some things done over the next two years, or at least set a foundation for real change that will benefit America. Minimum wage legislation and immigration reform come to mind. However, if Speaker-to-be Pelosi can't reign in the pent-up extremists, and Democrats turn Congress into a courtroom, they will risk turning off the American people who are weary of infighting and gridlock. If that happens, the Democrats will suffer the same ignominious defeat in 2008 as the GOP did on Tuesday.

One important thing that will determine whether the Dems can get things done is what Bush does with his veto powers. The Reps complained alot that the Dems never had any solutions... just complaints.

Well now the Dems have their chance, BUT, only if Bush cooperates and doesn't veto every single bill the Dems create.

If Bush creates such a gridlock, I think you can expect the Dems to start hitting back with all kinds of investigations on Bush and his administration. Then all heck will break loose and absolutely nothing will be done by either party.
