    Tropadaro Wins!

    horse.JPG
Just as I had predicted, the small black horse with the big heart took the lead in the stretch and held off two stakes winners to win by three-quarters of a length at Suffolk Downs. Tropadaro has now won two in a row for G-Biscuit Stabel, but this was his most impressive win of his career. The pint-sized gelding defeated the best three year olds on the grounds at Suffolk. With Dyn Panell in the irons, Tropadaro stalked undefeated Bresco for 6 furlongs, pulled in from at the turn for home and held off Sparkle of Gold with a game stretch drive, to win the $25,000 allowance race. Tropadaro, was the second choice in the betting and paid $6.20 to win.

Good for you. Must be exciting to have one of your own horses win and make some money to boot.

What's the average amount years that a horse can race?

Dr. No, it was an exciting time for all G-Biscuit partners. Thanks for the congrats. We now have seven horses, ranging in all from 3 to 5 years old. Healthy thoroughbreds can run competitively for years, but most are retired once they begin losing their interest. We recently retired a 9 year old with $143,000 lifetime earnings because he refused to respond to race conditions. Once they hit the bottom of the competitive ladder, and can't earn their own keep, you know a horse doesn't want to run anymore. Our retiree, Jam Feu, was donated to a farm on Long Island for disabled children and he has become a "star" once again in a different light..

So are you able to actually make a profit off of your horses or is this mostly a passion that you and your parnters follow? I've heard that having race horses can be a real hit/miss thing where you either make good money or lose alot.

It's a tough game, Dr. No, but I wouldn't be in it if I didn't have a passion for thoroughbreds and a desire to make a profit. Our investment group includes 11 men and three women. We have a legal document in which all our earnings are reinvested for two years. This has allowed us to expand from one horse to seven. To date, we have won $180,000 in purses while paying out $110,000 in training fees, purchases and vets' bills. So we are ahead of the game. We also have a good horse agent who recommends what we should do with our stable, including purchases and where the horses should run.

Congrats Jim. One favor to ask. In the future, can you give us the tip a day or two in advance so we can get to the track. You know how hard it is to find a bookie around these parts?

Godfather, I do not endorse illegal gaming activities, however, I will do by best to inform the public about G-Biscuit's schedule. I would suggest looking at the posting that runs in The Sun, which list the advance entries. For the record, here is our active stable lineup at Suffolk Downs: Tropadaro, Purple S Shamrock, Lucky Geisha, and Gee's Bend.
Another filly, This Cat is Due, is coming off a slight injury and should run within two weeks. Also in the barn, and training for his maiden debut, is a 3-year-old gelding and full brother to Purple S Shamrock. His name is Purple Pirate. He should run mid-August. As for our star, Actxpresso, she is due to begin training August 1 for the fall schedule in Maryland. She's been resting comfortably at Runnymeade Farm in Rye, N.H. after winning 4 of 6 starts last year.
