Wine, fruit, chocolate and thee

fruitwinetray.jpg The weather's been so perfect that I've fallen way behind in my blogging duties. This just perked me up. The Vintner's Cellar in Wilmington is holding a summer wine and fruit pairing on Saturday. If there is a better combination then breeze plus sun it has to be wine and fruit. Where's the cheese? Winter people, winter.
The skilled duo Sue and Erin are pairing their own semi-sweet wines like cranberry shiraz with fresh fruits like blueberries, strawberries and peaches. I've never thought much about this paring, but it's so simple, so fresh, so right now.
Pick a time between, 1pm and 7 pm. and sign up already. Go between trips to the beach, or skip Hampton all together and learn something. Did I dream that chocolate was involved? Perhaps the Vinter vixons will take my suggestion -- a little nip of the dark stuff has quickened many a merlot tasting. www.vintnersmass.com. ... And speaking of fruit, when is Edible Arrangements opening on Merrimack Street in Lowell?

Showcase update: Billy, the man Costa, will make an appearance in Lowell Thurs., July 30. NECN's food frontman comes to town (he should buy a condo downtown already) to help kick off the week-long restaurant rendezvous. This is a Sam Adams sampler that could be more fun than the whole week of discount dining. But I'd say meet Costa and visit at least two restaurants you've never been to or have filed in the forgotten bin. The list is 16-strong and growing. This is restaurant week, time to fatten up the edible economy.

I, The midnight gobbler, do not understand the point of edible arrangements. Yes they look beautiful but then if you take a bite out of it it will not look good anymore. On the other hand, if you do not eat them, then they will rot and look just as bad.

Normally, Gobby, I think you're just a ranting lunatic, however, I have to agree with you on this one. I spent $50 sending an Edible Arrangement to my mother for her birthday. What was the first thing she did? Took it apart so that she could fit the pieces in the refrigerator so that it would keep for more than one day. I should have spent $5 on strawberries and $3 on chocolate and made it myself. Cute idea, but big waste of money.

hey thanks lost on lowel, glad to see we agree on something. And your mom is lucky to have a bright little offspring like you, to buy her stupid presents. Next time go with the Fixodent and talcum powder in a nice little gift basket. Your mom will appreciate it more

This is the second dumbest thing to ever open up in downtown Lowell. The first dumbest being the high end perfume shop that opened up next to Mike's Restaurant some years ago....it lasted a few months. What makes these business people think that Lowell is Newbury Street (the Boston one - not the one in the Highlands).
