While dining at the Cast Iron Kitchen in downtown Maynard last night, I nearly choked on my tuna tartar when I received this tasty tip-off :
Celtics greats Kevin Garnett and Jo Jo White are opening a high-end sports bar in Maynard, where Christopher's Steakhouse was on Route 62!!
If that's not an alley-oop/slam dunk for this sleepy region, I don't know what is. The mighty forward (who sure can rock a designer suit, 40 Long ), must have grown bored warming the bench all post-season long and started thinking about the future. Those knees can't be reworked forever. Word is several $$$ Plasmas have already been purchased and the joint is set to open this summer. I'm thinking Michael Jordan's Steakhouse, but better cuz THE BIG TICKET is at the helm.
I suspect steaks, chops and high-shelf booze will make the starting lineup. Even more eye-opening is that KG lives in Concord, the land of Emerson and Thoreau. I can't see the 6'10 muscular forward mixing it up w/ the preppy class at the Colonial Inn.
Side note: The Cast Iron Kitchen is an excellent hole-in-the-wall. Sharing space w/ Quarterdeck Seafood, everything's uber fresh. Scallops, tuna and the caprese salad and pints of Rapscallion eased us into staycation mode. The copper-plated bar, soft jazz duo and refined beer selection surprised me most. And speaking of beer, Rapscallion is being brewed in Lowell once again!
GG, do you have anymore info as to where Rapscallion will be available (other than Maynard)? I love the Premier...they used to have it on tap at the old Brewery before it became Beerworks. They also used to sell bottles at Harrington's Liquor Store in Chelmsford. We were quite upset when they stopped brewing.
Here's where Rapscallion is available.

I wish Rapscallion were available somewhere in Lowell, I miss it. Are they back to brewing at The Brewery/BeerWorks?
Welcome to Twitter GG!
According to this BBJ article below, Rapscallion contracts its brewing out to The Paper City Brewery Co. in Holyoke. I did not know such a concept existed. Good luck Rapscallion, hope the beer finds its way back to Lowell. The taps in Lowell leave a lot to be desired for a craft beer drinker. We need a beer bar here on the scale of Sunset Grill in Allston. Who wants to open it with me?

Craig, a Sunset Grill-type place in Lowell would be *amazing* If you opened it, I promise you'd have a pack of beer-loving knitters as regulars ;-)
I'd consider it. Check out Deep Ellum in Alston and The Dirty Truth in No. Hampton. These are cool beer halls that Lowell could emulate.
GG...Time for a Beer Blog! We love beer. (and Sunset Grill, which is an icon!) We carried Rapscallion before but it didn't sell well. Just curious...What other beers do "we" want to see most? Marianne? Craig?
i'll take an abita and yuengling, please.
I'd love to see Stone and Allagash!
Oooh Beer! I have a few fave's I'd like to see...Franziskaner, Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier, and some Brooklyn Beer...for the Brooklyn girl in me. :)
Scott, how about keeping at least one rotating specialty tap and broadcasting that somehow. For instance Harpoon 100 Barrell Series(they could not even keep up with demand for their last Catamount Maple offering, the new Helles Blonde Bock is also super), or Harpoon UFO White, Allgash White, a BBC offering, or something else local that you cannot get anywhere else. I also recommend having some good wheat bottled beers such as mentioned by Ruby, though nothing beats a Weihenstephaner Dunkel in my opinion. The Old Court had Radeberger Pilsner on tap a few months back, that was a nice, unexpected surprise. Now they are back to their all "safe" tap selection unfortunately. The thing is, as you mention, craft beer won't probably won't be a big seller on it's own. Still, a beer bar in Lowell with 20 or more taps I think would do well. Now, I think Beer Works is great, they have some great beers (they had a barleywine style ale recently) & they change it up often, but still think we desperately need a real beer bar, where beer selection (20 taps minimum)and atmosphere come first, along with great pub fare and service. If you ever want to know about a beer before committing to a keg, check beeradvocate.com first. Also, the place to be June 20th is the American Craft Beer Fest in Boston (http://beeradvocate.com/acbf/). Support your local brewers.
