All the rage in Lowell right now is Mark Wahlberg filming The Fighter. If Marky Mark, Christian Bale and co. are dining in the DTL this summer, where should they go? Any recommendations food people? A take-out order of Jilly's roast beef subs is a must for the first week on the set. A fighter's gotta eat. And since they are both playing boxers, Bale's Eklund more washed up than Marky's Micky Ward, but a boxer none the less, they'll need to keep their energy up. On The Road Cafe's PB smoothies will do the trick.
To keep up his physique Wahlberg should order the goddess at Life Alive at least one day during the seven-week stretch. He's man enough to dig into steamed leafy greens, tofu and beats and not look like a pansy. If they are staying in town (DoubleTree sightings anyone?) surely they' do sushi at The Blue Taleh. I'd recommend steak on a stone from Cavaleiros after a long day of hitting the bags at the West End Gym. From the sounds of their site survey yesterday, Cupples Square is going to be ground zero for the Hollywood crew. The Khmer Restaurant used to have an excellent lunch buffet. And the spring rolls at Phien's Kitchen on Westford Street are a KO.
Restaurant wrap-up: Building developer John DeAngelis has finally found a noshery to go into the first floor of the American Textile Building. Just in time for the museum's opening next month, a Greek Italian restaurant will finally replace the long-gone Gazebo Cafe. The owners are from Miami and are applying for a liquor license too. That's a boon to Lowell Sun journalists who may need a mid-day pick me up. And speaking of wine, Dick Rourke has been waiting to open his TuttoBene vin and cheese cave for months now. (That cheese must be good and aged). Because he owns Ricardo's, which has a wet bar, the deal has been under scrutiny. Expect the cabs and gouda to be flowing soon.
They'll be here for a while i assume and will have the chance to eat at several of our wonderful establishments. Cobblestones, the Athenian, Feng Shui (chelmsford), and of course the four sisters for breakfast.
Dicky Ecklund... we know what dicky's really famous for.
Marky should definitely check out Tepthida Khmer. Definitely.
Now......on to more important things ---- TuttoBene! Good Gawdy Gawd! I've been staring into his window for weeks, listening to the bottles and cheeses whisper "Jabby, come to us........come to us". A moose needs his cheese. C'mon!
Hey GG!
The boys have already been to Cobblestones.
Mark had the Haddock and Chris had a juicy Sirloin.
Dee lish, and I'm not just talking about the food.
I think it's so awesome that movies are being filmed in Lowell...finally getting the recognotion our little city deserves! I'm hoping that I run into Mark Wahlberg, although I really wanted to run into funny man Ricky Gervais and it never happened. I'll tell him all about the Goddess bowl...it's gotta be one of my fave Lowell treats...which reminds me of a recent question about famous Lowell Treats. This is one of them...and it's ours! Pho88 is also a good place to carb up before a big fight!!!
Speaking of Miami...when will we have a proper Cuban restaurant in our midst?
OK star struck, next time you see the boys snap some picks and send em over. We want to see these main entrees,
OT, but it seems like from twitter that those "Dharma is Coming" signs next to Centro are for a new ... exactly what Lowell needs ... sandwich shop: dharmabuns.net
The owner of that domain, acording to whois.net, is John Capriole, apparently of Haverhill, and owner of http://www.creativebuffets.com/. Will his experience be a big plus in figuring out how to get the non-expanding market for downtown lunch fare to support another sandwich option?
Good friends of mine went down to Cobblestones the other night and saw Marky Mark and Christian Bale. Marky Mark even had his picture taken with them. Wasn't Jennifer Garners new movie recently filmed at Cobblestones as well?
Frequent Diner, we need those pix. Have your friend email kpierce@Lowellsun.com
thanks!
RE: http://www.dharmabuns.net/
I hadn't seen the signs yet. Darma initiative in lowell? (Isn't that some kind of copyright infringement?) Hope they serve those Dharma beer cans.
