I finally made it to San Francisco Kitchen in downtown Nashua. For years I've walked by this Main Street spot and wondered, is it any good? The answer came in the form of tasty teriyaki chicken sticks smothered in peanut sauce and sweet and sour soup that had one member of our party swooning. Yes SFK is fresh, California cuisine masquerading as a Granite State bistro. The menu is hefty, but by no means staggering. You can do sushi, or filet minot (recommended by the owner's son) or just go for the fruity drinks I saw at many a table. This time of year the white-picket fenced patio fills up in a flash. You won't see cable cars lumbering by, but SFK has the power to whisk you from Main Street to Fisherman's Wharf on a balmy night when the westward wind blows.

I try not to say negative things about a restaurant after just one visit ordering one thing, but I went last year for sushi and was underwhelmed by the food and service. I'd give it another shot if the opportunity arose. One thing they did have there that has stuck with me is they make their own ginger-ale or other ginger-type beverage and that was really, really good.
I was in San Francisco on a two-day trip a few weekends ago, and I wonder why Boudin's Sourdough, after 160 years, still hasn't expanded beyond the Bay.
I've got a big problem with downtown lowell. The other day i'm walking past the dubliner with my wife (who is a little on the overweight side). And some 20 something year old punk reaches out and pinches her rear as we are walking by. Let me tell you, it's a good thing my wife is big and able to hold me back long enough to calm me down, because i was on the verge of dragging this guy into the alley. I told him to get 3 of his biggest friends and meet me over at kitredge park so that i could destroy all of them, of course he never showed up. He must have seen the fire in my eyes. Anyway, the point is, we have so many wonderful establishments in the downtown lowell area but they are outnumbered by the goons and drunkards who prowl the city streets looking for upstanding people like me and the wife to bother. The LPD needs to do something. I make a tremendous amount of money. I eat out twice a day and frequent alot of the city's classier bars. There is nothing i like more than spending my money in the city that i grew up in and giving extremely generous tips to those working in Lowell's service industry. But all of that is going to stop unless downtown is cleaned up. ENOUGH!!!!
ginger-type beverage? Those are magical words, I must now find a way to find my way up to Nashua to see what this is all about.
yes! we agree with gg and mg. Let's move to New Hampshire! Better roads, better Police, better restaurants, better newspaper!
One of the secrets of real sourdough bread is the SF water - same reason the best authentic bagels are only available in NYC.
I've eaten at SFK a couple of times and thought the food was good, the atmosphere a tad depressing and the service so-so. I do take a bit of exception to calling it "California cuisine" though - most folks from the Bay Area would shudder at the thought.
anon, i'm all for you moving to new hampshire. And what new hampshire newspaper do you consider better then the lowell sun???? The nashua telegraph?? If you don't like the lowell sun then get off this blog and stop spewing your nonsense. You belong in new hampshire.
yikes.
if everyone who dislikes the lowell sun stopped reading, i don't know if there'd be any readers left. inbred bitch seems a little harsh though. i do agree, however, that the thought of moving to new hampshire is an unpleasant one.
Your chicken teriyaki sticks did look delicious! We will have to have another meet-up, at another just-as-delicious eatery, soon.
