Things are perkng up

george%20howell.jpg Rob Nason is going to be my best friend. And quite possibly yours too. Here's a guy that's so bullish on Lowell, he's giving out samples of George Howell's ultra deluxe Terroir Coffee to interested parties (that includes lucky me) to determine which roasts he will carry at Market Street Market. This morning I French pressed a batch of Tarrazu from Costa Rica. How can I put it in layman's terms? It kicked ass. Doesn't come on strong like a la minita, it gently dances into your blood stream like green tea. What got me was the description: full-bodied coffee filled with complex sweet nutty flavors and a generous dash of milk chocolate.
The last part specifically. Any coffee that incorporates chocolate is gold people, gold. The market opens late next week w/ treats of this caliber.

Rob wants to know: "Would you prefer 100% all-natural chicken without antibiotics or hormones for a little more money, or your basic chicken you can get anywhere for less? Our deli container can only hold so much product so I would welcome any advice."

That's not too tough. Those faux birds are fairly hard to stomach. What do you think?

Tidbit of the week: C'est has a Fri. afternoonish tasting from 4 to 7 p.m. This is a fun spot to launch your wkend. Good chocolate too. Proprietor Faith is one hell of a swiss miss.

I vote for the 100% natural. It's a lot harder to find around here...

Can't wait to stop by!

DTLover:

I think I'm going to like this place. Hope the bread is good. Bye- Bye Hannaford.

LostInLowell:

I cannot wait for this place to open. Every evening when I'm walking out of the parking garage, I look across the street hoping to see lights on and doors open. I'm hoping for good coffee (done!), good tea, and good vegetarian food.

GG:

Cheese is also going to be a huge factor. I stopped in yest. and it's really coming along. the space is v. nicely painted w/ custom wood counters. A fresh-squeezed orange juice machine too. And they plan to bake their own pastries.! What? this place is going be off-the hook.

splath:

What great, local market research! Polling the DTL residents for their opinions, before committing to product that may or may not be embraced. Given the void, my guess is both "all natural" chicken OR "super" chicken will sell, but curious how the people vote. Lower price, or better for you DTL? Best of Luck Mr Nason!

whoopsie:

100% natural chicken please. Can't wait to visit!

dtl resident:

Just remember...MOST of us who live downtown are on a VERY fixed income....so if you want us to patronize you make sure that we can afford it. Don't go all shi-shi on us. Bad enough that the people who bought the radio station took it all yuppie (Lowell is not a yuppie place)....I wouldn't expect a yuppie store to succeed long term in downtown.

Janette Nason:

We plan to have a "soft" opening by the end of this upcoming week. I am sure there will be many wrinkles to iron out at first so I'm hoping you all can be patient the first few weeks or so. I'm sure you will, everyone has been so nice and encouraging during this entire process and we will ALWAYS welcome helpful comments and take into consideration any requests for food.
We have our initial orders together for most everything except cheese so I encourage any requests at this time!
By the way..DTLover....the bread is great! Baked locally in a European brick oven, local, fresh and healthy!!!

Jumpin' Jack Flash:

Hate to break it to you DTL resident, but if you live in DTL, you're either a yuppie , an oldie or a section eightie. No offense to those last two groups, but you've been unable to sustain any businesses in downtown for a couple of decades now, so step back, stop your complaining, and let the yuppies have a crack at it.

Market Street Market:

We understand that Lowell has a wide array of people from all different backgrounds and life experiences. We will try to be reasonable in our pricing at the same time offering quality products. We will be carry a complete line of Surefine products as well as many upscale lines. We are stocking our shelves with many items, we can't be everything to everybody, but will will do our best. We plan on having a soft opening Saturday.

Thanks,

Rob
