Wine dinners, wine tastings, wine fill-in-the-blanks are sprouting up in the MV like dandelions through brick. So which one to chose? That’s why I’m here ... Since we’re in recession-mode (still on a budget?) I’ve selected two wine arounds at the opposite end of the price spectrum for your delectation. Next Thursday’s Grape Expectations combines vins and beer w/ coconut chicken tenders and poached pear crustinis for a good cause. If the thought of a chocolate fountain still excites you (why wouldn’t it?) the Tewksbury Country Club is the place. There will be a wine fashion show (see what the best labels are wearing this spring) from five houses as well as spring ales from Aubuts in Tewks. The cheeky chics from Vinter’s Cellar in Wilmington serve dessert wine plus two “funky” varieties made in house and Dick Rourke gives us a sneak peak of Tutto Bene’s cheese offerings. Oh, and I see I buried the lead, there's a coffee tasting too. Proceeds go to Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Inc. Tix are $35. mvfb.org
If you are not in recession-mode, or perhaps suffering from budget-burn, splash out at Gibbet Hill’s spring vin dins May 18. This Monday blues killer includes a four-course menu prepared by North of Boston's hottest chef Richmond Edes (he’s the real deal). Spring pea and tarragon soup, local day boat scallops, Parisian gnocchi, meyer lemon, frisée and smoked onion soubise (what?) are just some awesome edibles that will be paired with wine from Vintus — a biodynamic organic Cali. winery. Stay on top of the trends and make foodie friends at this tasty event.
A bitter chocolate genoise ends the $85 feast. Think that’s high? We all know these things can top $150.
