Goin' round the dial

Lowell%20pizza.jpgWe ordered pizza from Broadway Pizza last night and although this isn’t it (I don’t have the patience to photograph my food), it bore a striking resemblance. Our sausage, pepper, tomato and mushroom pie arrived piping hot in 20 minutes. And I mean piping. It needed little spicing up, although Gourmet Guy tossed ample oregano and pepper on his slices, the meal was better than it should be. The price I thought was a tad high for a no-frills, old-school pizza joint ($17.89), but it hit the spot and we had a piece left over. Since I have not ordered pizza in Lowell in a coon’s age, I wonder what other pie palaces are worth a dial? Who delivers the best za around ? My dough’s on
Broadway, the 31 year-old pizzeria in the Acre. But I could be persuaded.

I think Lowell House of Pizza is great, but make sure you ask for "George's Style".

Also $18 bucks for a pizza from Broadway? I thought you could still get a small cheese for $5 there.

Hands down the best pie in the city is at Jillies Roast Beef on Rt 38. They've only been making pizza since around November but the placed has been packed on weekend nights since word got out. The ingredients are always fresh and it's very filling. I feel bad for Milans.

Suppa's pizza on University Ave! Absolutely reminds me of my fave Brookly pizzeria, Caterina Pizza if you're ever in East New York. Be sure to ask for it well-done!

Can't beat the price either!
Large cheese is 11 bucks
Large 3 topping 14.50

My only warning: Slow delivery Friday nights and game nights. Pick up is the way to go on these nights.

i agree with the suppa's vote, as it's the closest thing i've found in these parts to tri-state area pizza, which i had no idea was so rare in new england until i moved here. broadway's ok. but suppa's has that thin crust that so few pizzarias use in new england.

havent been there for a while but expressos use to be the best in the mv

I really love Pizza Hazel on Gorham Street. I usually go for there HUGE syrian roll ups but I have gotten there pizza twice and it was very good! I always get it delivered and they are really fast.

Also, Espresso's Pizza will ALWAYS be my favorite. Though I have only been the the Fitchburg location and haven't had it since I moved to Lowell. But I do know the Lowell location is the original! I hear they put orange soda in the sauce which is what gives it that sweetness.

What does Georges Style mean?

We used to go with Trolley Pizza, but now we've settled on Broadway. Suppa's is good too.

I keep intending to order from Suppas. I have to disagree with Pizza Hazel because the pizza is nothing special and their wings are iffy. Broadway is always a good bet, but I actually like Conrad's on the corner of Westford and Stevens St.

Espresso is best. I also love their meat pie.

barbie mac and jim, are you guys nuts? Espresso? Everytime I go there the sauce is too sweet and the pizza is undercooked. Broadway is the way to go?

Espresso works, and what a mainstay! sals if you have something good to dip all that extra crust in, brickhouse does a good job too. But our failies "go to"..SUPPAS, no doubt!! -splath

Gotta agree with you on that Gobbo...if there's one thing I can't stand, it's a sweet sauce. Blech! Espresso is my least favorite pizza in lowell...not that I haven't eaten it late at night after a few beers. Still, not my cup o' tea. Don't care for Greek pizza either...greasy crust is an acquired taste, and this brooklyn girl just can't seem to acquire the taste.

Lowell House of Pizza bought the name and recipes from the old George's Pizza on Broadway St. when they closed.

They have a separate menu with George's style, which is thicker, almost deep dish, with a rich, dark red sauce. The pepperoni is incredible.

Tough to call where the best pizza is. The real George's was by far out of this world, and Lowell House, while you attempt to recreate it, its just not the same. Sorry. I admit you can't go wrong with a captain jasons, has anyone picked up on their take out special? A few large pizzas, fries, onion rings, sodas, for 30 something bucks?! Come on now, in this economy we should be lining up for a taste. Angelina's was good, until they closed the doors. boo. I'm sick of espresso's, and while I like the sweet sauce, a floppy piece of thin crust greasy paradise is far and few between. Recommend trying out Veneto's in Vinyl Sq, North Chelmsford. A 3 min drive from Wood St, this place is GREAT! Reminds me of Pizzeria Regina. Always good, prompt, friendly. I've always been wondering... where is the french bread pizza shop? Don't we all love it?!

Prefer Romano's in Dracut over the places I've tried in Lowell.

I loved Angelina's and was sad to see it go. For delivery purposes mostly, since they serve the same pizza at Hookslide Kelly's next door. So if you found yourself longing for Angelina's pizza go next door!

Veneto in Vinyl Square of North Chelmsford is great. Also the pizza at Hookslide Kelly's is great. I run a 5k on Tuesday nights and they come out with hot fresh slices for $1. So good. So good. I have yet to try Pizza Hazel. I also hear Stromboli's in Billerica is pretty good. I liked that place in Tyngsboro that had amazing crust where they had that owner threatening to kill the manager for stealing money fiasco. Flatbreads in the bomb too. I'm craving pizza wicked bad right now.

LOOKS TASTY
