Get progressive

Keeping the edible economy humming is not easy. We've all been guilty of taking our dining dollars out of town when the yen strikes. And there's no shame in that. But it's good to get a reminder of the umpteen diverse places to nosh right under our nose. On Thursday May 14, in keeping with Doors Open, DTL restaurants swing wide for a spring-themed progressive dinner. It's a retro idea culled from the times when money was short, as in right now. Eat something at one place and amble onto the next. From 6 to 9 p.m. places like the Athenian Corner, Centro, Cobblestones, the Blue Taleh (yeah sushi) and La Boniche offer apps, entrees, drinks and other marvy morsels. I just came back from a breakfast on Lowell's Creative Economy, and I think the Edible Economy needs to start waving its flag. I'm all for artists, poets and musicians, but when are you creative chefs and hard-working barbacks going to get your due? You are equally important to "the handmade of human good," no? Food, you can't live without it. Let the EE revolution begin.

Sidenote: The Market St. Market now carries Taza chocolate. (God Im good). I nabbed an 80 percent dark bar last night. This stuff is strong, grainy and like a caffeine supplement. What's not to like?

GG hits the road today to get some fresh ideas and try some Chicago deep-dish pizza. Come back on Monday for travel tapas from the windy city!

Mmmmm, that progressive dinner sounds yummy - I'm looking forward to it!

Market St Resident:

I am VERY disappointed in the new market. I wanted so much for this place to be good....but I find the bread to either be close to out of code or out of stock.....and they only seem to have exotic breads.....garlic, olive, etc...whats wrong with a good homemade white bread!?! I can walk to it....but if I'm out in the car there is never a parking place anywhere near it.....but hopefully it will last longer than the hot dog place did.

EMS:
