Remember when Olive That and More used to sell things? The market/deli opened in the heady days of Lowell's reinvention. And then one day the crackers, wine, cheese and pasta everyone loved was stripped from the shelves as if by a miffed creditor. They played w/ nights, put in beer taps and showed Sox games in hi-def. For the past year they've held steady as a lunch spot only. Today I discovered Olive That is returning to its roots. Seems owner Matt Masson is out and his former partner/wife Tracey is back in. They will close this weekend and re-open on Monday w/ product and a slow move back to its former self. Olive That, welcome back! Perhaps you can stay open past 2 p.m. on Sundays?

Excellent move I say but baffled by the timing: This is right before the new mini-grocer a block away opens, and Ricardos new wine/cheese shop opening in a month?
Looks like there is going to be some competition in DTL! Even though people are pinching their pennies, a little competition is a good thing.
I hope Olive That can reinvent itself from a sandwich place into something with more pazazz. I eat there occasionally, but in my opinion, the food is mediocre and the staff always looks mildly irritated when they wait on you. I'm excited to see what kind of changes are coming and with them the best of luck!
It's great to see Tracey back in charge. 'Olive that n more' sort of began the "trend" for such concept in DTL and it was exciting. They perhaps suffered some growing pains as so many new businesses do, however, she is such a great spirit that I am sure she will continue moving that excellent spot forward.
Best of luck girl!

Hey Lost, I totally agree. When Olive that first opened up i thought that they were amazing. Their Sandwiches were great, the people there were really friendly, and they had some interesting stuff for sale. You could tell you were getting quality service and a quality product because the people working there were the owners and their family members .( who are great people i might add). Then they started selling some interesting beers and staying open late and don't forget the big folk festival cookout. They were looking good. At least one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite or beer.
Then, all of a sudden, the owners weren't there as much and they started hiring some very strange looking 15 - 16 year old kids with multiple piercings who did in fact seem to be quite bothered by customers. The quality of food seemed to go down a little as well. I didn't mind paying a little bit more for a sandwich as long as it was of good quality and not put together by some filthy, hideous teenage girl with a bad attitude.
I hope things go back to the way they used to be at olive that n more because i really used to love the place. Best of luck
My husband and I used to go to Olive That almost every weekend to have a bagel and read the paper. After three Sunday mornings in a row where we stood outside the door at 9:30 and they weren't open, despite the door saying 9, we started going to Brewed Awakenings and haven't gone back since. We occasionally would walk down in the evenings to have a sandwich/salad with a drink and watch some of the Sox game on a nice summer evening. Last summer they were closed by 7 every night.
I liked the vibe of Olive That when they first opened and the owners were always friendly. However, the one veggie sandwich option on the board is essentially undressed salad on bread. Add some hummus or guacamole and we might give it another go. Meanwhile, best of luck to them. I wish them success (although I share Corey's confusion re: the wisdom of adding a small number of gourmet products when the two other places are about to open with significantly more stock).
This is very exciting news!
I am so happy for Tracey, and look forward to going there more often again!
I am slightly offended by Midnight Gobbler's reference to the physical appearance and cleanliness of Olive That And More Employees. The only piercing I saw was her nose and she looked pretty clean and her attitude was conservative. But its great to know that the Olive That is back.
hey 2 vegetarians ,also like good fresh veg food best hummus since bishops is at the greek restaraunt next store they also have veggie grape leavese and spinach pie(to die for) as far as olive that and more great place never had a bad meal but the hours were strange to me .i get home at 6-630 by the time i got down there they were closed thats how i found out about the corner, hope ot& more stay open later.good luck i`ll be there.
The Midnight Gobbler needs not reply on this blog. All he does is slander!!
Maybe the Olive That can work a deal to buy Hummus from the Greek Place.
To Anon
Even though I do not always agree with Midnight Gobbler, I find his comments refreshing although some what rudimentary in prose and maybe too honest. I LOL at some those quirky but honest remarks.
Thanks rag doll. How is it slandering? I said Olive that was AMAZING, I wished them the best, I said the owners were WONDERFUL people, i said the sandwiches were UNBELIEVABLE. All i said was that they were not as good since the family stopped being around all the time and they hired those youngins to run the place. Now that the wife is back in charge i'm sure it will be great again.
And on the topic of hummus. Olive that n more had the most delicious red hummus. I guess they took it off the menu..
Very sensitive aren't we? If you think i'm bad you should see some of the stuff i write that doesn't get posted. Right GG? =)
After watching the Olive That & More crew toil all weekend to rearrange, redecorate, and revamp the whole store, I had to stop in this morning to check out the new look. The place looks great! There's a new counter for ordering, you can actually see the person you're talking to! More teas, great coffee (as usual), the menu is the same for now, but I'm told there will be additions and changes in the future. All in all, the place looks great, Tracey greeted me with a smile and a quick run-down of all the items they had for breakfast, and I left with steaming coffee and a great breakfast sammy made just to my order. I would recommend stopping in and checking out the new digs.
Midnight Gobbler - please disregard Anon's remark - your comments are very amusing, and I enjoy reading them almost as much as I enjoy this blog!
I wonder how many comments GG deletes in a day...:-)
