Not another peep

peeps.PNGThey don't seem edible, but squishy, neon Peeps have been making dentists giddy for 85 years. These marshmallow marvels are manufactured by PA's Just Born for every holiday, but Easter's when Peeps really shine. To keep things interesting, they introduced a chocolate mousse flavor and created a bevy of recipes to go w/ the co.'s campaign Get Creative with Peeps. Peep fondue (inset), looks like something the Peanuts Gang would have for Easter dinner. Ick. I can almost see Woodstock falling into the chocolate. It actually comes w/ this warning: Excessive consumption may cause stomach discomfort and/or a mild laxative effect. Umm. think I'll pass. Besides recipes, the co.'s website boasts a peep art contest. Anything that can be glued to a canvas, doubling as an art supply, should be far, far from the digestive track. Sorry Just Born, the marketing dept. needs to lay off the sugar. They took Olean off the market, but somehow Peeps are going strong. Any chefs considering working Peeps into holiday menus? There's got to be a Peep martini out there dying to be born. Or perhaps Peep pate, peep poppers?

In my opinion, the only way to eat Peeps is toasted. The sugar on the outside gets all burnt and crunchy and the marshmallow inside gets all warm and gooey - so yummy!

I can't believe this page is still up, but 10 years ago, this guy did a study on the survivability of Peeps' closest cousin: the Marshmallow Bunny.

Peeps are the best! I look forward to them every holiday. The best way to eat them is to open the package and let them get stale for a few days! The're great in hot chocolate too.
Yum!
