Big lunch, short money

centro-stellaweb.jpg Centro, the Market Street bistro that looks like Miami Beach, is keeping the Great Plates love alive with a spin on the city's successful promo. Starting this week, chef Patty Stella lays down a three-course discount meal that should revive those ladies who used to lunch, but have gone into hiding w/ a can of beans in the basements of Belvidere. (You know who you are). For $9.50 the mid-day crowd can fortify themselves w/soup or salad (Centro nabbed 2nd place at WinterFest 09's soup comp. btw) baked orecchiette pasta and sausage tossed with ricotta tomato sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese. Yes please! Sinful chocolate mousse with fresh berries will send you back to the office w/ a spring in your step. Or, if you throw in a signature cocktail or two at the squiggle bar, home for a catnap. And you thought the three-martini lunch was dead. Centro's Great Plates runs Wed.- Fri. from 11:30 to 3 p.m.

I stopped into Centro today and had the lunch special - Delish!! I couldn't even finish my dessert :)

Alison:

Had dinner this past weekend at Centro and was disappointed. Was greeted by a manager who rolled his eyes when we said we did not have a reservation (AND it wasn't even busy!) As for the food, the short ribs were drowned in a brown sauce that had no flavor and the steak tips were even worse. I have given this place a few shots but have never been blown away. A shame because it is a cute place!

Wow! I'm surprised to hear this review of Centro. We've gone there several times and both times I ordered the short ribs and they were fantastic...almost as good as mine. ;) I was also surprised to hear that the manager rolled his eyes upon entry...that was completely different than my experience. Hmmm...guess you never can tell if its going to be a bad day or a good day in food service.
