The Market Street Market didn’t open in February. Boo! But in this tough economy we should be ecstatic it’s even opening at all. Right before St. Paddy’s Day the luck o’ the Irish will be w/ the Nasons when the doors to our version of Mr. Hooper’s swing back. What to look forward to? Jessica’s Bread, a machine that squeezes oranges into OJ before your eyes and sugary fried discs from Top Donut. I like this range. Something for the proletarian and the metrosexual alike. They will be baking their own biscuits in the morning and preparing breakfast sandwiches to go. A full kitchen serving “very simple, good and hearty meals like veal parmesan” will be avail. on a rotating basis. Owner Robert is looking for suggestions. What would you like to see lining his shelves? Well since you asked, yogurt, rich and creamy, bananas, grapes and quality dark chocolate. Bagels would be nice too. How bout you?

Please have vegetables and fruit. That would make living downtown much easier and save me from having to drive to the supermarket.
La Mexicana Salsa and some unique mustards.
How about high quality dog and cat food (science diet) so you can make one trip and don't have to go all the way to the pet store. A lot of downtown residents have pets and it would be convenient to get your food and your pet some food in one stop! Also fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, mint, etc!
Fruits, vegetables, sauces, soy milk, meat alternatives, coffee, tea, LOVE the idea of good breakfast to go (please, no microwaved eggs... ew). I wish them the very best, I am so excited for this place to open! Open in the evenings would be great too, at least until 7!
Please have local veggies when available (sans styrofoam trays and plastic wrap).
Absolutely would love to see some nice cheeses!!!
Also spreads and breads, produce, smoked salmon, coffee beans, nice chocolates (to go with my cheese) and other like items I have to drive all the way to Trader Joes in Nashua to get.
Good bagels!! Plus some interesting toppings for them. I could completely do without the Top Donut. Blech. I'd rather see decent croissants and muffins.
Good cupcakes. No offense, Mambo/Monkeys, but those don't cut it.
I'd love it if the kitchen did family-size takeout, like a whole lasagna or baked mac n cheese.
Are they related to the Nason's quick bite over on Lakeview in Dracut?
Top Donut, Blech!!!? I love their donuts! I'm just worried that now that I no longer have to walk all the way over to Top Donut that I'll be going more without being able to use the excuse of getting "exercise" getting over there.
I agree that good bagels would be killer down here. I don't like my bagels themselves fancy, but interesting cream cheeses are a big hit with me.
I would love some fresh vegetation downtown. I was telling my buddy last week, " buddy, there are really some big things going on downtown...great plates, jazz nights, and so on and so on. But what we really need is some fresh veggies around here"
He agreed.
And i'm with corey, i'll take a plain bagel with a smoked salmon cream cheese any day. Do you guys know if there will be a full breakfast menu? I can't take the grease of the diners everyday.
Top Donut has the WORST donuts in the world. Not sure if its the mix they use or they oil they fry them in but - yeech! The best donuts in the city are Donut Shack on Westford Street. I really miss the little old guy who used to sell donuts at his farmstand in Boxford on Rt 133 - he would make them every day and bag them and you would go in take a bag and put your money in a coffee can.
I've read your comments with great interest!! We plan on the best produce in the area. Organic milks and fresh squeezed OJ, bagels will be from Jessica's Breads.
I'm surprised by the comments on Top Donuts., I'll have to hit the donut curciut once again in quest to bring you the best local option. We will be having family take out portions as well as complete meals.
Our opening has been delayed as we have been updating the electrical systems for the building, putting our refrigeration compressors in the basement to keep the noise to a respectable level. We've decided to scrap the plan on having indoor seating as we've determined that we require additional shelve space. You'll soon see our fresh produce presented in our windows before long.
We anticipate opening the first week of April. We are sorry about the delay and appreaciate your understanding. We are excited for this new chapter in our life and are looking forward to meeting our new friends. Please stop by during our final days of construction and check us out and feel fre to introduce yourself and tell us what you would like us to carry and we'll do our best.
Thanks,
Rob & Janette Nason
how about some illegal cockfights like at the bodega in Seinfeid. That would be fun, it looks like the same place from the outside.
I would NOT recommend putting compressors in the basement. They need fresh air to operate efficiently (and to save electricity) - I would suggest the roof instead.
Three words: Trader Joe's Please!
Donut Shack's doughnuts are the best I have ever tasted. Top donuts' taste good, like Dunkin Donuts.
Giving Donut Shack a slot would be supporting a wicked local business. Please try them, see what you think.
An inside tip for you all. After much trial and error it looks like we have a firm opening date!!! We are having products shipped in this week and stocking our shelves with goodies for your enjoyment!
We plan on opening Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Once the window paper comes off you'll know we are open. Question for for your readers.... Would you prefer a 100% all natural chicken enviromentally friendly, without anitbiotics or hormones, no water added, for alittle more money or would you rather have your basic chicken you can get anywhere for less $$. Our deli container can only hold so much product so I would welcome any advise.
Thanks,
Rob
