Candy everybody wants

truffles.jpg Seems chocolate is the one thing we can all agree on. So comforting, so rich so recession-proof. The NYT touted candy as the one bright spot in these toxic times on pg 1 yest. I thought I'd put that claim to the test w/ my favorite chocolatiering couple, the Falcones of Dante’s in Billerica. Sure enough their terrific truffles are rising like the Dow circa 2007. "Chocolate is a good business, people are not buying the big ticket item, but always can spend a few dollars to get their fix,” said Santi, the chocolate god. So true. Biz is so sweet he's getting calls from stockbrokers looking to trade Wall St. for Willie Wonka St. Although up to his ears in Easter bunny molds, Santi found time to add new truffle flavors like passion fruit and work-in-progress acia berry. Im pushing for the latter. I'd like to sink my teeth into dark chocolate w/ a boost of antioxidants. A smoothie you can eat, a noble invention. What makes your sweet tooth ache?
Btw: Boston restaurant week is happening now, anyone hit the Hub? I see the Liberty Hotel's Clink is on the list, cool spot w/ bars and blue-blood babes from the Hill. John Kerry spotting is highly likely as is Ernie Bock. Who would you rather see? Also Left Bank in Tyngs. is on the list. I'd bank on it.

I tried Azure in the Lenox on Monday and had a nice meal. They have about 6 different options for the courses so it was nice to find someplace that had a bit more expansive rest. wk menu. They also had the option of ordering "wine flights" and for $15 you got 3 different wines (1 with each course, of course!) and it was a generous pour...especially for restaurant week...well worth the $15! We went to Left Bank for the last restaurant week (I think it was actually called "appetite stimulus" week, not a legit rest. week) and it may have been the best rest. wk meal I've ever had...cleared every plate!

Had Boston Restaurant Week late lunch at Sel de la Terre at the waterfront last week. I think they are using the weekend brunch menu, 3 courses and choice of Bloody Mary or Mimosa for $21. Husband and I enjoyed our meals.

We also did dinner at Left Bank which was also impressive. Just fabulous flavors, a wine selection that is tops, and presentation and service that are exceptional.
The previous Rest. Week dinners at Silks/Left Bank were somewhat disappointing, as though there was no attempt to entice customers to come back for another visit at regular prices. I think that is what Rest. Week is all about, giving folks a chance to taste the best of the best at a reasonable price, so we'll be so hooked we cannot NOT go back!
