I've heard some carping round the office today that Valentine's Day is for fools. Several "men" have made jokes about swinging by the gas station on their way home from work and swooping up whatever’s left. Umm, wonder how much action they'll get the rest of the year? I'm taking my hard-earned $$ and pumping it back into the edible economy in exchange for some roasted quail eggs and a stiff red drink. But if I decided to stay in I would try to bust out an upper-echelon treat like lobster ravioli. No shame in kicking it local. Wondering how the housebound plan to make tomorrow night special?
And if you're headed out, whereto and was it good? Looking for slings and arrows, hits and misses on this high stakes restaurant holiday. Enjoy!
VD, in or out?

Its Moonstones for me and my girlfriend. There having a special Valentines Day menu as well. Should be good.
All the restaurants we checked via OpenTable were booked solid, so we're staying home, roasting a duck, opening a bottle of rioja, and finishing with lava cake.
Going out on Valentines Day is as nuts as dragging Mom to brunch on Mother's Day or taking the family out for Easter dinner - esp, with V Day on a Saturday. We're keeping it cozy at home with a couple dozen oysters, beautiful bay scallops and free flowing pinot noir. Anxious to hear how Moonstones was though.

My original plan was to go down to Bedford and go fondueing at Melting Pot. Didn't get into that nearly early enough and my GF actually ended up having to work tonight anyhow, so we went out to Parker's Maple Barn in Mason, NH for breakfast instead. Certainly not the most romantic, but always delicious :-)
As for keeping it local, I did purchase a dozen long-stemmed roses, chocolate-covered strawberries, and champagne from C'est, all very good and well-priced. Well, the Champagne is for tonight, of course!
Went to Gvannis in Billerica for Valentines day with another couple. Gvannis had special for $50 per couple. This included a glass of wine each, one appetizer per couple and entree each. All entrees named after famous couples like Romeo and Juliette, Bonnie and Clyde etc.
We started off with scallops wrapped in bacon. Then for main course I had roast veal with prosciutto and cheese over bed of spinach. It was delicious. Our friends had beef medallions and the veal.
My wife had shrimps with a special chocolate sauce which she said was great. Was sweet but didn't taste the chocolate.
I made joke to waiter that I missed my meatballs which I love at Gvannis and almost always get when I go. He brought over two meatballs with sauce, which I shared with the table.
Desert wasn't included but we shared a great Tirramso.
Just a great evening, and I think reasonably priced.
We kept it simple and local and went to the Mambo Grille. I as happy to see the place packed with happy couples and friends alike. The wait was minimal, the cost was low, and we had a great meal. In retrospect, we should have splurged on the fried ice cream, the table next to us had it and it looked awesome!
We decided it might be fun to have friends over so we got some tacky valentine's decorations to get them in the mood. Started with a rose' fondue and for drinks I made a Alize' red passion and champagne mix that went over well (keeping things red!). For Dinner, my Gourmet Girl made Beef Wellington with scalloped potatoes and vegetable mix. The tenderloin was great. I got it from J & B butcher shop in Tewksbury. Dessert was a mix of cheesecake and chocolate covered strawberries.
I did take her out to see Dirty Dancing so it wasn't all slaving in the kitchen ha ha!
Had a good time at Pho Da Lat.
Give them a try if you have time.

My husband and I went to cobblestones as usual. We ordered the raw oyster special (some sort of spicy mango drizzle), which was phenomenal.
Next was the Lobster and filet for two. The filet was perfect but I was not a fan of the lobster stuffing; it reminded me of tuna fish, hubs agreed.
We ended the night with the fondue which was a typical chocolate fondue, nothing spectacular but good overall.
Also, I was really irritated during dinner; there was a large family party with young teens that thought it would be special to start playing with their silverware (read they thought they were playing spoons or something). This went on for a long time....less than awesome.
