Jalapeno shakes it up

Margaritas%202.JPG It took him sometime, but Mr. J finally has a liquor license and is shaking up some tasty drinks. Now we can sip like the celebs in Cabo in DTL. Who cares if all we have are iced cobblestoned streets to look out over, and gray walls of snow, after a tamarind marg. you'll be seeing tropical sunsets. Mr. J offers six beers imported from Mexico, two kinds of margaritas and a chela mato — Clamato juice mixed with a beer (not for the faint of stomach), but what the hell? Points for inventiveness. Served blended or straight, these new drinks are worth a try. When the first signs of spring hit, we’ll all be itching for an excuse to leave the pad.

I know Mambo makes a margarita, and so does Casa Blanca in Billerica, so now that we have a few more players in the game, the que. arises who makes the best?
It's a few months till Cinco De Mayo, but let the dreamin’ begin.

We are always in search of the great maggie. We have tried Casa Blanca, had 3 large one night and felt not a tinge of lightheadedness...not a good score. I know its not DTL, but Daniella's Cantina on route 27 in Acton makes THE best maggie. It is our GO TO place when the urge strikes. The food is good too!

the midnight gobbler:

Nice, i love MR. Jalapenos. The LQ license was the only thing missing.

BeLu:

On The Border margs. with the "meltdown" on top (an extra shot of whatever you prefer), is my choice when drinking out. Of course my marg.maker at home shakes up the best marg. in DTL.

Sounds delicious; there is nothing better than a tasty, strong margarita! La Caretta in Nashua and Manchester, N.H. has HUGE margaritas; and I am always a sucker for Margarita's drinks - especially the Pomegranate Marg.

Craig:

Glad Mr J has booze now. If they just turn the lights down slightly, play some authentic mexican music, would make a nice Friday/Sat night destination. Make people feel south of the border. It won't be hard to beat the Mambo margarita, that is basically straight up margarita mix. I have to make believe there is alcohol in it.

Wonder how Ole is doing these days. Value is king in these times and last I tried it, the prices seemed too high and portions too small, even for tapas. Sangria was good but also overpriced. Hope some adjustments have been made, would like them to succeed.

Patti:

I love a Chelata (aka Chela Mato), budweiser makes them in a can. If you've done an oyster shooter and loved it, you would like a Chelata (very similar). I can't wait to try this place, I also love a great rita - Hermanos in Concord NH makes a killer rita.

BPC:

Just tried the Margarita at Mr. Jal's and was very impressed. Light on the sour mix, plenty of salt on the rim, boozy without being overwhelming. Can't wait to try the Tamarind version.

Ruby:

I'm sure someone will call me a booze bag...but I think this is Great news! There's nothing better than having a nice cold Dos equis XX or Margarita with Mexican! Good times, good times indeed.

Thankful:

Thank god for the margaritas maybe they'll make it easier to get the food down.

What do you work at the Mambo Grill? If you don't like the food don't eat there.

Hungry Grl:

Haven't tried Mr Jalapeno's Margarita's yet but looking forward to the tamarind one! So far my favorite is at La Carreta in Nashua! They are the best and deceivingly strong!
