Take a dip

donuts.jpg I'm told there are 13 Dunkin Donuts in Lowell. Is that enough? Guess not as DD no. 14 is set to open next month on Fletcher St. No complaints here as it is walking distance from the office and from Western Ave. Studios. Sure makes the trip to Lowell’s art Mecca richer when you know you can snag a hazelnut latte. Yum! Today I've got a big craving for all things DD. Could it be the news of new CEO Nigel somethingerother taking over the Canton-based chain, or the fact that there is no coffee shops in The Acre. I love the independents as much as the next fiend, but sometimes there is nothing like a DD brew. The sweet smell of the place, the sickening pink donuts, the whipped up frothy drinks ... it's like a candy shop for adults. I even like the orange and pink motif. This icy weather has me thinking about donuts too. Not that I would eat these fried dough rings, but I like to think about them. If you haven't been to Donna's Donuts in Tewks. you're missing out. Cheeseburger donut anyone? What’s your favorite donut house? And/or what do you crave in an ice storm?

nice, you can never have too many dunkin donuts. maybe all those losers that hang around market basket wasting their welfare money on scratch tickets will start hanging around there instead.

I must say this may end up being the fanciest DD I've seen (which isn't saying much). Appears they had to build to some historical mill code with all the brick and granite slabs...

However, I'll miss the Dutton Street car wash, that place was convenient, did the trick, and was dirt cheap.

i generally really like the gourmet gal's blog and reviews, but to exalt the opening of another dunkin donut's in lowell, esp. in the downtown area, is just not cool. what about local businesses and coffee shops becoming the hub of neighborhoods - that doesn't really happen at DDs. in fact, i predict that the location on fletcher st. is going to add to traffic probs. just like all the other DDs with the line of cars waiting for the driver through ever morning.
but besides that - 14 !!! isn't that number enough. the acre area needs businesses that will anchor the neighborhood not just attract more cars and trash (ie. people tossing their styrofoam cups and wrappers out their cars windows - which seems to happen near every DD).

I hear ya', Craig. That car wash was awesome and CHEAP! Maybe that's why it closed... The guys were nice, I liked going there. And I agree that the DD will cause more traffic issues, as if getting to the Connector via Dutton isn't enough of a pain in the morning?
