Spamalot

Look who's back? First cupcakes now Spam. This pork, ham, potato starch, nitrate shines in the spotlight once again. And we do mean shine. Have you ever held this gelatinous product up to the light? It damn near glistens. spam.jpgSpam's cheapo appeal made the NYTimes today. Seems the renewed popularity of this Hormel product has the Spam workers in Austin, Minn. working eight days a week and roaring all the way to the bank. Spam is one food, if you can call it that, that is recession-proof. A tin runs $2 and change and lasts for years on the shelf, but what do you do w/ the stuff? My father used to fry the srapple up in a pan on saturday mornings before football games. Ahh the lasting, memories of youth.

Any spam lovers out there? Spam recipes? I hear they make a decent brownies and there has been a run on spam at CVS this week ... Here's hoping Spam does not show up on local menus anytime soon. The depression, if that's what we are in, doesn't have to stoop this low, does it?

I make home-made spam masubi whenever I'm longing to be back in Hawaii. Armor used t0 make a 99-cent knock-off called "Treat" that wasn't bad either (not quite as salty) but I haven't seen it in about a year or so.
