Feel like wine-ing tonight? Harringtons in Chelmsford is popping corks on some impressive vino at Wines of the World. Two hundred wines and a gourmet buffet will be rolled out from 6:30-9:30 p.at the Chelm’s Radisson. Beside catching a buzz, this is a chance to try the grape juice everyone will be squawking about by the turkey and under the tinsle. I plan on giving reds and whites and bubbles this x-mas, yet I tire of the same old pinots (yawn) and malbecs.Tix are $40. 978.256.2711. If you are more of a planner, factor Littleton’s Grand WIne Tasting next Fri., Nov. 14 into your sched. Global wines will be sampled, hors d'oeuvres passed and live jazz ricocheting around Indian Hill Music Center. Jack O'Lantern in Ayer supplies the sauce. This is a nifty wine shop that deserves props for a fine selection and inventive name. Receive a 20 percent discount on wine orders too. Soulds like early stocking-stuffers to me. Tix $25. 978-486-9524.

We had a nice time at the tasting last night. Lots of great wines, including some less known labels, and even beers and scotches. It was well attended but not packed.
My brother went to the wine tasting - here is his impression
I while I thank you for a cool idea of something to do last night, I have to say my last impression of this wine tasting was the right one – it was horrible and over priced. Tons of wine, scotch and beer, but the wine was mostly cheap not very well known brands under $10-15 a bottle. There were over 30 tables of wine with 5-6 different wines per table, but only about 3 bottles over $25. And for some reason, even wines I liked, tasted terrible. I don’t know why. And aside from some good appetizers the main courses of turkey and roast beef were horribly dry. we did at least like 3 of the Rieslings we tried. But all the reds I tried were bad, even some nice Penfolds Shirazes. And to top it off, I woke up with the worst headache I have had in years I think it was the champagnes.
Sorry--not a comment about wine/tasting but a critique of Village Smokehouse in DTL. Went Sat. nite around 5:30. First--it was freezing cold in there. I'm just sayin'. Second--the food was OK. Just OK. I think, and my family seconded, that Redbones and Blue Ribbon are both far superior. Yeah, they're a drive, but isn't delicious bbq worth the drive? Third--pretty expensive for what you get. I didn't get the impression of a bounteous Texas-style plate. Plus, we got a very small crock of beans for the four of us. Can you say chintzy? While we left full, we also spent well over 70 dollars, not including drinks.
I'm really bummed, because I remember the glory days of DTL and want it to be cool and destination-worthy again. But VSH is not the vehicle to do this...
