You want local

Got two new Lowell establishment to appease the base.
La Medina, 1148 Bridge St. just opened and promises American/Mediterranean fare. Early entrees include baked lamb, meatloaf, chicken, kibee, a ground lamb or beef w/ cracked wheat flecked with pinenuts, mousaka, chicken picatta, special la medina rice. Soups, salads, pasta, fresh seafood, steamers, baked fried haddock and baked stuffed sole. They've been open for about 10 days, Give' em a try.
And Quick Pickin's on Merrimack Street has a new owner after a long spell. A 25 year-old local gal is slinging the subs at the popular lunch spot. The chicken chunk salad used to be my favorite till they started to skimp on the chunks and made the bowls smaller (circa 2005). But Im glad someone has maintained this no-frills deli. It's perfect for lunch-on-the-go. Co-workers used to swear by their Italian wedding soup.

Did you happen to notice whether La Medina has falafel? Thanks.

Thanks for the inside scoop. Has anyone heard anything about the supposed restaurant that could occupy the lower level of the new office building being built next to the post office? And what happened to the Irish bar at the Early garage? Any rumors about which hotel chain wants to build next to the arena? Interesting...

wow quick pickins used to be one of my favorites. Only problem was they closed way too early... what major changes are coming with the new owners... i hope they'll still have those delicious pickles

Crisis! I just read that all three Elliot's locations are closing as of today! 88 years of business...

You talk about local restaurants but are ignoring the best new restaurant in the area. Gvianes in Billerica.

I have sent you two notes on it, to give you a heads up and nothing. Do you have something against them?

I like your blog but have you noticed your only averaging about three comments on your recent posts.

If you haven't tried this place I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

John

Went to check our La Medina last night. Great Hummus and the prices are really low. Big selection for everyone. Going to go back with the wife and kids.

la medina!

we just went with some friends for a late lunch. Everything was fantastic. We all shared the hummus and baba ganoush; the hummus was some of the best I've ever had. Then I had the chicken schwarma which was huge and damn good.

We'll definitely be back for more, and soon.

Oh, and they do have falafel, though we didn't try it.
