Central St. Mex bar Sangarias will turn into Mickey's Irish bar in two weeks. No word on the pub menu or if they plan to keep the Tues. night local music mic up and running. I have not eaten at Sangria's since the original brothers ran the joint; quite frankly the crowd always scares me. Perhaps Mickey's will change all that. Especially if it becomes a Micky Ward bar and the stars of The Fighter (Damon and Wahlberg start to hang here.) Then this place will get major action. Competition is tough for Irish bars around here. But I guess that's good. The Old Court improved their game this fall w/ a new interior and cool open windows to Middle St. No word on what's happening w/ the shuttered Angelina's, again I think this would be a great lounge for the misplaced 30-50 age bracket. What do you think would work here?

I always liked the crowd on Friday and Saturday nights, because it was very low key. No college meatheads, no techno dance club girls, no unruly drunkards, just a small group of people that could always get a beer and good service when needed.

I'm looking forward to the concept change at Sangria's - it will be nice to cleanse the place of the former ownership (it switched hands over a year ago), and the skeevy patrons they used to have.
GG - you should give it another shot (once the concept changes) - I have gone there for the singer/songwriter night and had a really good time! The new ownership has done a great job of eliminating the problem patrons over the past year.
Whatever happens at Sangria's/Mickey's - I KNOW it won't have the collegiate/fraternity vibe that the Old Court has (which is nice at times, but gets old quick), nor will it have the dirty stripper vibe that the Blue Shamrock has.

Major bummer! Maybe they decided with 2 restaurants on Merrimack that the Mex market was saturated.
RE: Former Angelinas: A lounge for 30-50 year-old people? People in that age group (of which I am one...) don't usually drink enough to make bars profitable. Or if they do, the results aren't so pretty.
