One good wine dinner

wine%20our.jpg Just got an email blast from Serene in Andover about its wine dinner next week. This is the romantic hideaway in downtown tweedville, above Starbucks. I kid Andover, because it's so easy to. Full disclosure: I love this downtown. I haven't eaten at Serene and have no idea about the food, anyone care to add their two cents? But Andover Liquor is involved, so I'm there. Also it's a mere $50. OK, OK, that's a lot in these tight times, but rock bottom for a vin din. Plus it's Tuesday, what else ya gonna do? Crab cakes on toast points and fresh micro greens, accompanied by spicy aioli sauce washed down w/ a 2006 Bouchaine, Napa arneros chardonnay is a fine start. Then they bust out braised veal and porcini mushroom ravioli drizzled with a porcini and morell mushroom cream sauce paired w/ 2005 Estate Vineyard Bouchaine, Napa Valley, Carneros Pinot Noir! Any takers? Serene, 12 Main St. Andover, 978-475-7711. Im sure there are other great wine dinners happening right now. 'Tis the season. Feel free to add your favorite. Is Athenian Corner ever going to resume theirs?

Unfortunately I mixed up the date for the wine dinner last week at Infusions Bistro, but decided to have dinner there last night anyway. Wednesday night is the new date with spouse night.
Our meals were superb, fresh and local. We had a lovely shiraz (Hope?) to accompany our dinners, one filet mignon and one braised lamb shank. Wonderful compliment to both meals. I am sorry that I didn't have the chance to do the wine dinner with all the local farm produce that was featured on the 17th; I'll pay more attention to the Infusions Bistro newletter in the future.

I just made reservations for the Serene wine dinner tonight...i'll let you all know how it was! For me, $50/person for a 4 course dinner WITH a glass of wine to accompany each course is a complete no brainer. Looking forward to it.

WOW. Serene's first wine dinner was spectacular. In fact, you never would have known it was their first if they didn't tell you. Service, pace, food and wine were all perfect. Joe Nardone was extremely informative and approachable as was Serene's owner, Sally. Definately looking forward to their future wine dinners AND dining there on non-wine dinner nights. FYI, all the food that was served (GG listed above) is on their regular menu, so check it out!

PS - Carlos, Serene's chef, deserves a shout out here, too. Everything was delicious!

It would be nice if the Athenian Corner had another wine tasting. I'm not much of a wine drinker myself, but my wife who is overweight has started drinking it now because beers were making her fat. Greek wines are actually very popular now from what I hear. Personally i like that sweet red wined that is served cold... the name is escaping me right now..I'll have to ask the ball and chain when i get home. The Athenian is a decent little restaurant, but my wife doesn't let me go at night cause of the belly dancing. The last time i saw one of those dancers i got turned on and i was an animal when i got home.

And congrats GG i saw in last weeks paper that this blog is among the most popular . I see you even passed Lowellita.... keep up the good work
