Ole, Ole!

I went to Ole! a few weeks ago, back in the summer (remember that?) and had a great time. I don't remember the food as much as the entertainment. A guy on keyboards doing a salsa version of "Oh What A Night," had us cracking up into our tapas. Portions were a bit on the small side, but these are lite-bites after all. We loved the soup, it was a smoky, beany affair that hit the spot even on a hot night! But back to the sangrias, I loved them. Perfectly fruity, not cloyingly sweet, served in a nice crystal goblet w/ floating apples! That's right, apples. Keep this spot in mind when Valentine's Day rolls around. From the candles on the tables, to the lowlights and red roses, Ole! is mucho romantic.
Good choice for tonight too. With the rush of Seattle weather and a hangover from Wall St.,Ole! is as good a place as any to lick your wounds. Think Dali-light. Merrimack St ..... Ole!

I had really high hopes for Ole as bunch of friends and I went there a few weeks ago. While we appreciated the flavor on some of the dishes, the portions seemed to be lacking by even tapas standards (try Manhattan on Pearl in Nashua). Also, small basic things like providing bread with the tapas was overlooked (after asking, we were given what looked liked sliced white sandwich bread). The sangria was also somewhat overpriced and lacked a lot of flavor (again, really basic things - you don't put chopped apples in sangria! Try something commonsensical, like oranges or limes! Any bar has limes anyway...).

On a better note, we thought the flan was really good.

You may put apples in Sangria. Oranges, lemons and limes may be the basics, but look up different recipes and you will find all fuits can be used. I am not trying to defend them, but it is like saying margaritas only have to have lime. :)

Thanks for the info. :) I think a combo of multiple fruits with different types and depths of flavor make it even yummier. I think Ole could make the base of what they had (which good as a base) and more fruit to it. Peaches are also really good!

I always put apples in my sangria, along with oranges, lemons, limes, even grapes. I do think they need to add Brandy or Cognac. It seems to be lacking that very important ingredient.

Went to Ole last night and was happy. The sauce/broth with the scallops was heavenly. We didn't have to ask for bread, which was good, because we used it to soak up all the sauce. The above mentioned soup was great. I had a girly martini with pineapple juice that was very sweet and tasty. My dining companion had the red sangria, which was very good. As mentioned above, not too sweet. A couple issues with the service: our waitress didn't ask if we wanted anything else before bringing the check. In fact, we wanted flan! And tea! The tea was brought without cream and sugar, so it cooled until I could get her attention again. But, I'd go back. MIght try the paella next time.
