The Deli King in Tewksbury is the kind of place Letterman would love. Look at these guys, they are our Ruperts! Proud to be serving Yankee pot roast, bagels w/ lox and ...the classic Reuben. I was here last week and was touched by how old-school this place is. The cafeteria-style set up w/rows of warmed dishes laid out as far as the eye can see is the King's ace in the hole. I like it. Reminds of that deli in When Harry Met Sally that prompted Rob Reiner’s mother to lament "I'll have what she's having." But the Deli King is not for fakers. It's open for three meals a day and everyday a list of 8 to 10 specials are on the board. Throwbacks like chicken cordon bleu, turkey pie, and beef stew should please traditional New England chowhounds. But please, whatever you do, try the Reuben. I saw these guys put one together last week (see sig dish in tomorrow's paper) and the corned beef was so perfectly pink, it fell off the roast. And they fire up several of these mighty beefs a day. Portion control? They scoff at that at the DK. Breakfast served all day makes this a fine stop over when the yen for pancakes hits at 5 p.m. on an idle Tuesday. Leather booths, slices of banana cream pie and a jello counter exudes vintage-1950s deli karma. I might not become a regular, but I love that it exists. 885 Main St., Tewksbury. What's your favorite deli?

Deli King is the Shiznack! We used to go all the time in high school, the grilled blueberry muffins are incredible and a GREAT addition to any onolett or pancake breakfast!! I've never made it past breakfast food though, will have to try the Rueben!!
I can attest to the great Reubens here. Among the best I've had. The Metropolitan Delt on 110 in Westford makes a good one too. It's a 2 mealer.
Your right! It has been unchanged for a while. Which isn't a bad thing. It's nice that we have a place like this when the need for beef stew or some other comfort food arises. I used to take the kids there after soccer or hockey.Their instant meal was perfect.
Thank you thank you for identifying a place we can get breakfast after 2pm on a Sunday, nevermind all day long! Bonus points for the Reuben....its my fav deli sandwich.
This sounds great...I'll have to check it out.
LaCascia's in Burlington on Cambridge street is divine. Fresh scali bread and home made soups. They fire up some mean meat on the grill too.
GG you caused a run on Reubens!! I went this evening and saw about 6 ordered and people talking about the newspaper.
