A wing dinger

fab%20chicken%20wngs.jpg This post comes courtesy of Meredith of Tyngsboro. The frantic foodie called me out of breath yesterday w/ tales of a tasty trip to Saugus to check out Angela's Coal Fired Pizza, slated to open on Middlesex Road in Tyngs. I respect such missions. She raved over Angela's thin crust, incredible wings and the best damn service this side of Sicily. Then she sent me attachment after attachment of pix. I had to run this one. She's right, these wings do look good.
"We were told that the coal-fired ovens were shipped from Italy and are the only kind in Massachusetts. They were very appreciative of us taking the time and effort to visit them and treated us like royalty. What service!  We felt like we were visiting friends. Can’t wait until they are neighbors!!!" Jeeze, she sure is revved up. Can anyone match her enthusiasm?
It will be good to see the short-lived Shanahan Jazz Wine Bar have a second act. Angela's is set to open in Nov.

The wings in that picture look amazing. I'm always willing to travel for great wings :)

I'm a big fan of Smokey Bones' wings (on the Nashua/Tyngboro border). They updated their menu so now they have a better selection of flavors to choose from, but I stick with the plain ole BBQ. I went saturday night with a party of 2, and we ordered the 16 wings app. We ended up taking home around 5 or more wings. Very meaty and the sauce sticks to your fingers. Gotta love the wetnaps.

These wings are not a bbq flavor - they marinade them in lemon juice and rosmary and other unknown spices and cook them in one of the coal fired ovens - believe me - they are soooooo good.

Angela's wings, you're right, they are not BBQ, but roasted, with lemon and herbs, are senstional, as is the pizza! The coal-fired, thin-crusted, charred pizza is about the best I've had since my childhood days in Greenwich Village, NYC, where we got great pizza at "John's" on Bleecker St. (Even the present John's pizza is not the same as it was in the old days.) We're delighted that a new "Angela's" is opening in Tyngsboro, which will be closer than Saugus, for us. About the only other really great pizza, these days, is to be had in New Haven, Ct. at Frank Pepe's, or the adjoining, "The Spot"!
