Burlington bucks on the list

An alert tipsters says the Burlington Starbucks is one of 600 to get slashed! Altho I've been gulity of dissin' the Seattle chain like a WHO lackey, I am bummed. I used to hit this cafe on Mall Road before I hit the shops. Wait, upon closer inspection I see the "other" bucks in Burlington is closing, near Trader Joes. Phew! That makes more sense. It's impossible to pull in and out of that location near the Teak Form shop. Good choice Howie. The people of Newton Center did not fare so well.
In other food news: A new steak house is moving into Rios on Andover Street. Do we need another one? The Village Smokehouse is slated to pop in one mo. The same developers who worked on the Fairburn Building have rebuffed the original woodwork and added a bar. Soon we will be eating ribs and drinking beer like were in Memphis. Evos who? The menu is posted outside the Middle St. facade and it looks like burgers get plenty of play. And some fine sounding salads. On an off note, we hear Angelina's is on the block, this true??? Finally we brought Merri back, we need to continue the momentum! Your task for this month is to hit as many shops in the DTL as possible, or else we will be left with a new lifestyle center (read chains) in the JAM area and a dead city core. I'll kick things off by going to the Coffee Mill now for a blueberry iced — they better have it!

Can't wait to try out Village Smokehouse. I loved Evo's so much I am desperately waiting to see someone make good use of that terrific space. Haven't heard about Angelina's, but given that Hookslides is supposedly on the block too, I think that would make sense. My wife and I have ordered from Angelina's more than 5 times where they've forgotten items. Almost every time they forget the drinks! Waited over 60 minutes for an order (we live downtown) and were promised a refund for half. But of course the delivery man was already en route with the credit card receipt for the full amount that I needed to sign.
I would have to say that my first visit to Lowell Beer Works was amazing. Best burger in Lowell in my opinion. Simple menu, relaxed atmosphere, great service. We'll definitely be going back!

Is it a Brazilian steakhouse going into Rios? Don't count on Village Smokehouse opening soon. I hope their service is faster than than the rebuff.

I'm one step ahead of you GG. Have an awesome dinner at Blue Taleh Saturday night. They squeezed us in with last minute reservations. The meal was awesome, they know their tofu and their miso is one of the best around. The owner was running around filling water glasses and cleaning tables. How can you beat that? Especially when the check doesn't break your wallet.

I wonder how the current downtown will be referred to once the Hamilton Canal district is built. "Old Lowell" a la "Old Montreal"?

I don't think the Mall Road Starbucks is closing. When I saw the list a few weeks it was the one on the Middlesex Turnpike next to Trader Joe's.

Wouldn't not be shocked to see Angelina's go. I'm surprised it has lasted this long. My husband ordered a hamburger sub from there and it was awful. They forgot all the condiments, lettuce and onions and they gave him a regular hamburger instead of a sub. He paid more than $5 for a hamburger, the roll and cheese. Got it to go so we didn't realized till we got home.

I ate at Etsogo on Saturday. Very impressed as always. The food was super fresh and yummy. The dining room was pretty empty for a Saturday night. I hope people don't forget about this place now that Blue Taleh seems to be the new hot spot.

Is Ole open???

Ole! opens on Aug. 14. Mark it down!

I see Bad Dawgs has cut their hours back drasticly. They were closed at 7pm the other night when I tried to get a hot dog - wasn't my first choice but Elliots was "closed for vacation" - I prefer the grilled roll of Elliots.
Monkeys was closed too - have they given up already?
