What I'm lovin' now

eats.JPG Is the Thai food over at Dutton St. Dance Pav. They say ya gotta dance, gotta dance, gotta dance. I say ya gotta eat, gotta eat, gotta eat. Our order: Two chix on stix and a combo platter of pad thai and chix curry. Bill: $14. Reaction: Uhmpf, a little steep, but totally hit the spot. Washed down w/ a Starbucks sample of banana/orange/ pineapple smoothie. Took the edge off the curry sting. The barista w/ the sample tray said I was the 100th person to ask why the buck doesn't stop here. She said after this weekend, where so many asked her the v. same que., she's taking it to HQ. We shall see. Also checked out C'est on Merrimack and it looks fantastic. Lots of great samples there today — check it out!

My date and I sampled the Thai food as well and it was awesome. Chicken curry, mango friend rice, and the veggie pad thai. We were so stuffed that it was a challenge to find room for spinach pie from the Athenian Corner.

I was a little disappointed to see Dunkin and Starbucks. Much rather support the locals, so, we did.

This was my first Folk Fest and I loved it. The only down side being a downtown resident is the never ending noise (including take down last night after midnight, uh, hello?) and the hassle of my car being towed out of my own parking spot! (Thank you, Kazajians.)

Best advice for next year - eat small servings slowly so you can enjoy the huge variety!

In defense of Dunkin and Starbucks they were giving out FREE stuff. Nothing beats the hot summer sun like a cup of.......liquid yogurt.

The all-stars of what I had were the Duttun Street Thai chicken skewers, Athenian's Lamb ke-bob, the cabbage perogi, and the dessert balls at the Indian/Jamaican stand at JFK plaza (Schwety balls?)

Honorable mention goes to guy outside Cafe Paradiso's $2 ribs and the Laotian spring rolls.

If I didn't mention your favorite it's probably because I didn't have room for it! I liked all I had, I kind of wish the thing was a week long so I could try everything!

I tried to get some of the chicken that GG recommended but it was $5 for 1 piece and at that point I just was no longer "$5 hungry."

My favorite LFF dish was from the Nigerian stand by the church - a spicy goat curry dish. Absolutely delicious!

Runner up was probably the Philipino food... The Portuguese looked great but I didn't have enough room left to try it.

Most overrated (in terms of line size) was the Polish... the pierogis were just OK.

What can I say, I'm sad that the Folk Fest is over but my waistline thanks me. I ate so much Filipino food I could barely walk on Saturday, and even brought some home in my handy dandy tupperware.
The empanadas were fabulous! The Jamaican beef patties were really cold which was a little disapointing. The Pirogi's were to die for! I even had some great Bruschetta at Fortunato's...all in one day!
Sadly my folk fest adventure came to a halt on Sunday when the rain started. All of the food stands closed and I was left craving more Filipino food.

Moonstone's update just for you GG!
The man and I went out to Moonstone's last night. All I have to say is that it was soooo worth the wait. The service was impeccable. We had the eggplant/goat cheese crostini, lamb lollipops, and the chicken white bean chilli to start. All of which were deeeeelish. The Sangria was awesome too. I think there was an earlier post about Sangria, definitely a must have. I had the carnitas with sweet potato fries and he had the lobster & shrimp entree. Everything was so good we decided to go for broke and order the zeppoli's. I can honestly say that it was one of the best birthday dinner's I've ever had, and contrary to what everyone else was saying about this place, I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the quality of the food. Scott was nice enough to send complimentary digestif's after our meal. (Thanks Scott!) It was such a great experience I even filled out the comment card. Who does that?
