There are plenty of places where an insomniac can snag a quality cup of joe after hours and the Java Room in Chelms. is one of the best. This stylish FREE WiFi cafe has entertainment Thurs.-Sat. and is open till 11 p.m. on wkends. ALSO a winebar was inserted here last fall so you can alternate btwn. vino and espresso. Unfortunately last time I visited the coffee (George Howell's) was weaker than a kitten. If you go get an Americana or latte. They have sandwiches, salads and gooey desserts too. But the very best thing about TJR is blogging at a winebar. Love it. The Java Room, ginger ale plaza, 14 littleton road. www.thejavaroom.com
And there's also ... wait, I can' t think of any others. There simply are not enough cafes that cater to friends of the bean after the streetlights come on. How about a late-nite coffee/chocolate/wine bar. Like Swan Chocolates in Nashua, but naughtier?

I ended up at Border's the other evening, laptop in tow, hoping to get some work done, and the cafe was completely packed! (I tried Java Room first actually, they were closed. bummer.) If Border's can attract such a large crowd, why can't the smaller places? I think that MeetUp.com groups often use Border's as a meeting place. Not to mention NO FREE WIFI at Border's or Barnes & Noble. Makes me miss Aiello even more. So sad.
Hi GG:
C'mon, give the regular coffee at Java Room another chance. When I've partaken, I've found it to be a satisfying cup. Java Room also does a tasty iced tea: their SuperFruit iced tea is great when they have it.
My summertime order there is an iced green tea, which I request with the addition of raspberry and mint flavorings. So refreshing on a sizzling hot day. This one isn't on the menu but the lovely folks at the J-Room will gladly serve one up if you ask. Enjoy.
There's the eggroll cafe, open till 10 on weeknights. Only 8 on saturday, I guess since it's mostly a UML hangout.
They have great desert eggrolls too.
I second that motion to go to the Egg Roll Cafe!! IF they were downtown, instead of right by campus, I bet they would do even better. Their food is awesome and the staff is very friendly. It's a great space too. But the crowd is always the college kids - which I'm sure is their target audience - but it makes me feel old when I go in there!
