Over these little gems. July is the time to dig into as many blues as possible, they won't last long folks. I have not indulged enough, not by a long shot. One of my favorite summer eating rituals is going whole hog over blueberries. And in the spirit of keeping "it" local, I suggest Parlee Farms in Tyngs. Their berries are big this year and particularly vexing. A kindly co-worker (thanks Joanne) brought some in on Monday and they really got me through a low-energy morning. It's not for nothing Dunkin' Donuts has a blueberry iced coffee. These cuties go down nicely w/ coffee. As fine a paring as wine and cheese. Im not a doc, but I'm told the tasty suckers protect the old noggin too. They send messages to the brain to make you smarter. Now can you say that for chips or popcorn?
In other fresh produce news: Brox Farm in Dracut has the best corn around. And it’s ready early this year. I bagged some at Andover’s farmers market last Sat. Great farmer’s market btw. Has anyone been to Lowell’s version this year? Sounds like an oxymoron, Lowell and farmers, but I've scored some good basil from a Dracut hand there in yrs. past.
Weekend tip: Verrill Farm in Concord is celebrating all things blueberry on Sat. Blueberry pancakes, pie-eating contest, you name it. 11 Wheeler Road from 9 a.m. to noon.

Holy Mackeral!!! Those things are as big as pumpkins!!!!!
How could blueberries be VEXING... which would mean troublesome, worrisome, annoying or difficult????
They can be. It's like fierce, sick, killer. They are vexingly good. I coined it.
