Looking for a quick beer and a slice before the Celts game yest., we got turned down at Pizza Regina and ended up at the tiny, hidden Pushcart Caffe. Located on Salem St. across from the famed La Famiglia, the Pushcart was the perfect retreat from the heat. We ordered custom slices (unheard of in these parts) and two beers. Nervous we were going to miss the hoopla in the Gahden, we cursed the wait. "Can't they turn these slices out quicker?" I snapped in pitch-perfect annoyed tourist fashion. Yesterday I learned not only is Leon Powe the most underrated shooter in the NBA, but patience is a virtue when it comes to pizza. Was it ever worth the 15 minutes of agony. A thin-like, crispy crust w/ a thicker ridge was the perfect canvas for a cheese, tomato, garlic, artichoke, onion dream. It wasn't a dream as much as an experience, like seeing Pierce leap from his wheelchair onto the floor in Game 1. "Makes me think I've never had good pizza," said my trusty tablemate. He was so right. Nothing tops the taste of the North End when it comes to za. Of course a worthy quest would be to find great pizza, the kind you read about, in the Merrimack Valley. Could keep a focused-foodie occupied all summer. Can anyone help me launch the slice safari? Sal's isn't the only game in town I hope.
Pie, oh my!

Holy carp it's hot out! Did that ice cream store open yet? If not I bet they wish they had!
Yes they are open. Monkeys on Merrimack!
Flatbread Pizza is about as tasty as it gets. The one in North Conway is by far the best, but the place in Burlington comes in as a close second. I guess that makes it a chain, but they serve awesome flatbread pizza, organic toppings, and its baked right in front of you in a giant wood-fired oven. Mmmmmmm pizza..... Try the homemade lemonade too.
I second flatbread pizza. But isn't there something closer to lowell?? All I've had is mediocre pizza here, same with the subs.
I've had good pizza at Ricardo's. But you have to order it off the menu. And they don't always oblidge. Has anyone tried the Sawmill in Dracut? Or Wicked Cheesey in Tewks.?
Oh yeah, cobblestones has some good flatbread pizza - but only 3 options.
