Kiss my poutine

I finally tried this most Canadian of Canadian dishes and lived to tell about it. Whew, glad that assignment is over. Poutine got me to Montreal, but the fries, gravy, cheese curd chore didn't go down easy. Yes, I'm happy to be back in the states and enjoying my iced coffees and fruit parfaits. For the whole poutine experience check out Wednesday's food section in the Sun. Because I feel I lost some of you (most of you?) w/ my Montreal food ramblings, let's get back to the chow at hand. Seems many are lovin' the Beer Works. I still can't believe there is a Lowell Beer Works. I've only been once and didn't eat. I expect to change this status by the wkend. Speaking of beer, has anyone tried Allagash white? I had one yesterday in Montpelier and it was so tasty, so summery, it was like lemonade w/ a stern kick. A perfect late-afternoon, waylaid in Vermont kinda ale. I don't know much about this beer, except that its brewed in Maine and that can't be bad. On a humid summer day a cold beer in an air-conditioned cafe with wooden walls and local characters playing dice hits the spot that white wine (even the high-end stuff) simply cannot reach. What ale are you popping this summer?

gourmet gal:

I didn't come aross any smoked meat. I did see a sign for smoked meat near Notre Dame, but a starbucks had moved in. Looked like a historic sign they kept for show.

There are so many good eats in the city. The crossiants truly inspire. have fun.
