Where Im eating this wkend

TGIF food friends. Let's get down to it. Where to spend our recession-proof dollars this wkend? Im longing to try Unums in Nashua. I popped into this Tuscan-themed (trend alert) bistro last wk. and was bowled over by the charm spewing forth. Burnt orange walls, soothing h20fall and two bars, makes this an appealing spot. The 2nd bar is a chef's bar, ie open kitchen seating. Like a sushi bar only w/ flames of fire and linguini flying instead of seaweed and wasabi. The menu too was staggering and refreshing. Daring combos (but in a good way) i've never heard of graced the pages. Okay I don't have it in front of me, but trust me it tantilized. Id lke to hit Unams, 47 East Pearl st. beyond Manhattan on Pearl on the left.
www.unums.com. Also Saffron is a newish spot near the Peddler's Daughter that's getting raves. Where are you dropping fork tonight?

Unum's is fabulous. The building itself is worth the visit, the plants, waterfalls, etc are amazing. It's beautiful. The food was awesome every time I was there. The menu is not veg-friendly, but a quick chat with the waiter and they custom made awesome meals. Definitely worth the drive!

Well, since it's Mothers' Day weekend I'm staying away from any eating establishments. I find that they're filled all weekend, not only on Sunday, with cranky senior ladies and their pissed-off adult children. So I avoid all things restaurant on this weekend. And I use the excuse to have my husband and kids make me several fabulous meals...

Hella Enthusiasm:

Many thumbs up for Saffron Bistro; my husband and I dined there several weeks ago and it was wonderful. Attention to every aspect of the dining experience, properly trained staff, lovely presentation of delicious meals. Try it.

Tonight we have reservations at Gilson's Herb Lyceum. We are regulars there and will go with our son and daughter-in-law; we hosted their rehearsal dinner at Gilson's last summer. The most recent newsletter introduced a new chef. Has Guida left? She was super even tho I didn't think anyone could top Wil Gilson. We've followed him to the Garden at the Cellar in Cambridge. Outstanding!

Yummy:

As far as I am concerned, we have waited too long for summer. I am spending mother's day at Kelly's on Revere Beach, eating all of the lobster rolls i can stand.

Hella,
I had my rehearsal din at Gilson's too. And I loved Guida. Where did she go? I'll have to get to the bottom of this. Good choice tonight.

We went to Unums months ago with friends. The atmosphere was fantastic, the drinks too. The server was brand new, and still learning but looked like Julia Roberts and was so sweet and friendly that we almost forgot that the appetizers took 40 minutes. The (3) that were right were very good. The menu was good, if not a little "much" in the way of ingredients. But the two bottles of excellent Tempranillo for only $35 made everything A-OK!!

GG; on the DL (that was "down low" b4 it became "downtown Lowell"!), we are taking our first reservations at moonstones tomorrow night (Saturday), and Tuesday through Friday of next week. We will serve 60-100 people per day, by RESERVATION ONLY, leading to our grand opening on Tuesday, May 20th.

Thought you, and your readers, may want to know, and may feel brave enough to endure our initial bumbling, but PLEASE, no big announcements (or published critique!!!!) until after the 20th, when we hope to be 100% ready. Promise?

Feel bad for our Chefs who have been working 7 days a week, getting a new restaurant ready, while also preparing for busy Cobblestones and a sold out Mother's Day.

To all you Mother's out there...have a great day! You deserve it. SP
