Paninis aplenty

Who presses the best lunch out there? I've noticed an inordinate ammount of these grilled sandwiches lately. They're infesting like ants. Opps bad food analogy. Can you tell I've been out in the garden? Seems everyone and their barista is making paninis in Greater Lowell. These toasted Italian/cheese meals that ryhme w/ martini are the new grinder. They do em up at Cafe Aiello, Brew'd, Olive That and More, and where else...? Bad Dawgs. Not yet. But Im sure a panini hot dog is in the works. So it got me thinking, who prepares the best panini around? The last one I had was at Cafe Madrid over the winter, a cubano feed, and it was superb. What's your fav?

I had a mean Cuban at Cobblestone's last week, it was pressed sandwich perfection! Loved the sweet potato fries that accompanied the sandwich too. It's definitely my new fave. I have yet to try Cafe Madrid's but you're not the only one who raves about it so I'm looking forward to it!
Also, got a sneak peak at the Moonstone's drink menu...wow! I don't think I've EVER seen a drink menu like that in the area.

There's passable Cuban sandwich at Bread House. When I say "passable" I mean that as a strong compliment. After aquiring a HUGE affinity for the Cubano living in Miami, one of my hugest pet peeves is that just about every place up here has to put their own "spin" on the darned thing. Just make it the way it's supposed to be!!! Cuban Bread, roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and pressed on a flat plancha, NO LINES!!! Why is that so hard?

Anyway, Bread House makes a tasty one, though the bread is a little chubby.

Do the Cobblestone's and Cafe Madrid versions "keep it real" or are they "inspired?" I'd love to try them.

Oops, I forgot to mention the swiss cheese!

Charo's makes the best Cuban sandwich in town. And it is cheap, too!

Buono Panini in Billerica on 129 is the BEST!

The Cobblestones Panini does have the Roast pork, swiss cheese, and pickles that a traditional Cubano has, but sorry to say...it has lines. If the lines are going to ruin it for you don't know what to tell you. It's still delicious. I appreciate an authentic Cubano but can also appreciate a good spin on it too, as long as it's delish I'm game. Spice o' life!

Sounds like it's missing ham as well.

To be frank, I think I just have to have the ones I make at home. I do applaud Bread House for the solid effort.

There's a cuisinart grill/griddle/panini press I use to make them that I highly recommend to anyone interested in a versatile machine for the home.

Second Charo's, it is almost too big for one person to eat. And delicious.

Please tell us where Charo's and the Bread House are!

Charo's is on the corner of Merrimack and Palmer St. in Downtown Lowell. The Bread House is on the corner of Kearney Square and Prescott St. in downtown Lowell. I think they both have websites.
