Go Greek or go home

GreekSalad.JPG Couldn't you just dig into this salad right now? Add four more courses and five wines and you've got yourself a notable night of gorging like a Greek. The Athenian Corner on Market Street is getting into the vino, (or as they may say in greece viniatis), game w/ their first wine diner next Wed., June 4th. Unless your last name ends in oulos, what you know about greek wine probably fits into a thimble. Isn't it time you brushed up before your take that trip to the Aegean isle? You'll want to set yourself apart from all those bonvivants ordering wine at the seaside tavernas by tossing off lines like: "Oh, it's so hot. I think I'll have a glass of moscofilero."
The tempting feast on tap commences w/ dry reds, salmon santorini, broiled kidney lamb chops w/ an oaky, velvety cab, fried kalamari w/ a nice white. The famed Horiatiki salad will be served w/ saganaki — a greek sausage — accompanied by a delicate fruity white. Stay till the end to find out the answer to this time puzzler: What pairs best w/ baklava?
Call 458-7052 to reserve a spot. $45 smacks. Not bad.

Only a Mavrodaphne could stand up to baklava. (But afterwards you've drift off into a sugar coma)

That is too bad about Hookslides. The place is great, especially the outdoor alley BUT...the service is spotty at best. It takes way to long for wait staff to even acknowledge you are there. The food is o.k., typical pub food but with the Old Court around the corner I can see where they might not do a brisk business swhen the OC's grub is primo compared to theirs.

Also, a group I was with ran into some a manager/owner who was less than plesant. Nah, that is being too nice...he was just plan nasty. Ended up swearing at one of my friend's for no particular reason. It seemed like he was trying to pick a fight with us.

I haven't been to Quick Pickins in a minute, but I do love their pickles. Their egg salad is pretty good too!
