Dali in Lowell?

Fans of uber tapas joint Dali in Somerville can kick up their heels cuz Ole is coming to town. In the stretch of Merrimack St, near Bad Dawgs and Monkeys (the wildlife block), a Dali-type rest. is set to open in six weeks. We don't know much beyond the name and concept, but we like what we're hearing. Spanish apps and pitchers of sangria. Ole! And speaking of Monkeys, the ice cream spot opening Sunday, we popped in today and the space looks great. Giant purple monkeys swinging from vines on the wall and a tiki hut up front where cupcakes will soon be sold, lends this place a great fun feel. Big ups to Franky/Matt/Andy for bringing this cool concept to town to make our summer all the tastier. Turns out any ice cream flavor can be made soft serve. You pick the flavor and topping and a magic machine does the rest. Did I mention Brew’d coffee will be on tap? I love the condo of coffee and ice cream. The hot and cold is so perfect. Better than wine and cheese. Really it is. My staycation won't be so bad this summer now that Monkeys swung into town.

Monkey's is going to sell cupcakes? Bakesale anyone? Has anyone ever paid for a cupcake in their life? Whatever, more power to Monkey's I'm glad they are ready to do some business. Are you saying Ole's is opening where Anna's Boutique is? I thought that place just expanded. Amazing if Ole's in fact opens in 6 weeks. I remember reading 2 years ago that the Village Smokehouse (RIP Evos) was opening in 2006. Here we are in 2008 and they are still dragging heals. GG, how about an update on the Smokehouse? Amazing if the unknown Ole opens first. BTW, I thought we were discussing all the shakeups and unrest. Does this blog (and this town) have bipolar disorder?

Dali does a fine take on Spanish tapas and sangria (much better than Sol in Waltham). We've been to the Dali in Somerville a few times and always left happy, despite the wait to get in.

Like anything, If you've been to Spain and loved the cuisine as much as I did you need to lower your expectations a little bit in order to appreciate this place fully. (Heck, I'm under the impression some of the meats over there aren't even legal to import, so it's not fair to hold them to that kind of standard, is it?)

I'm sure glad to see real SPAIN-Spanish food making inroads here, the stuff is INCREDIBLE and whenever I come back from there I'm sad that it's just about impossible to find here.

Cupcakes are starting to become a big business. People are choosing cupcake cakes over regular wedding cakes. There is a bakery in Somerville that only sells cupcakes.
