Does anyone know what's happening on Tuesday at Starbucks? I saw a full-page ad in the NYT on Sunday w/ the ominous date 4-8-08 on a cup in white. The background was all black and that was it. The Web site suggests something big "like Venti big" is going down at 12 p. eastern time and we should all head to our closest cafe (drumhill rotary) to find out. Is this terrorism marketing? I'm scared. What if I show up and they shoot me? Or pour coffee in my face? Has anyone seen the ad? What's going on here? I like Starbucks, but I will not be ordered to appear w/o some splainin' first. If it's free brew, tell us... The latest salvo in the coffee wars is creepy indeed. I know most of you don't care much for starbucks, is this why?
Hey, I found out ... Free coffee from 12- 1p.m. today- Tuesday. They are unrolling a new coffee — Pike Place blend. Puts me in a Seattle state of mind.
What's up at the Bucks?

I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks. I don't think their coffee is very good. Plus there's that whole Walmartization of the neighborhood coffee shop.
This weird marketing scheme you speak of must be some desperate attempt to convince us all to spend what's left of our money on coffee. Think about it, every time you hear anyone talk about saving money and cutting out expenses in this economic downturn, what's the first thing they say? Kick your Starbucks habit and you'll save tons of money every month!
The crazy thing is, coffee bean prices are DOWN, not that you'll see that reflected at Starbucks or DnD.
My first run in with Starbucks was a frantic 30 minute lay-over at JFK where I had about 2 minutes to buy a simple "cup of coffee" and didn't see anything needlessly uncomplicated on their menuboard so I had to run out to catch my plane.
I went back years later and it WAS pretty good but it would have to have Bailey's in it or be served to me Hooters-style to be worth THAT kind of cash.
Hi GG,
