Ever notice that most restaurants off major highways are all chains? How many times can you chicken mcnug it in the course of a week? Whisked off 495 in Chelmsford, Moonstones is the culinary respite we’ve been pulling for. Set to open in mid-May, the Cobblestones off-shoot could be one of those restaurants. A destination. A cut-above. A reason to break your weekly funk and go out for food + ambiance + drink. Here’s what we know so far: A “great big rib eye steak” and “delicious burgers” are on the menu. A raw bar, featuring house oysters the Moonstone from little Rhody are menu mainstays. Frustratingly that’s all owner Scott Plath would let slip. His confidence was refreshing tho. So sure is he that his world cuisine restaurant (in the former Ground Round locale) will blow everyone’s doors off, he doesn’t need food bloggers to help him manufacture buzz. I'm not sore. On the contrary, I respect that. He’s concentrating on the right things — amassing an educated group of culinary professionals, aka waitstaff. “We can have the best menu and great drinks, but if the staff can’t pull it off”... He’s got nothing. So true. He did promise Gourmet Gal a sneek peek in a week. So come back for photos and vid. when we go inside Moonstones.

I can't wait for this to open. I'm so excited. Having all these restaurants around us is so nice. With Moonstones, Fish Bones and Feng Shui, Chelmsford is stepping it up a notch!

Kate, you left Infusions Bistro off the list of good dining places in Chelmsford.
It is becoming the new Nashua!

I haven't forgotten Infusions, I like it. Phil Proulix is one of the brightest young chef's around. Just haven't been in a while. What's new there, anything?

GG!
Thank you for your well written coverage of moonstones. Also your patience and understanding. But its no wonder I am reticent to talk to "the press" as I explained yesterday! :)
Lest your readers get the wrong impression, I said nothing to you yesterday that closely indicated that I am "so sure" we will "blow everyone's doors off". (certainly that would be great!)
Yes, I tend to be confident. (thanks mom and dad!) And yes, we are working around the clock to deliver what we HOPE will be a successful, well received concept. But neither of those facts insure success. I choose not to talk too much about moonstones for the opposite reason you cited. There is already enough pressure associated with this business, and the huge debt we have incurred.
We can't wait to get open, and we will do our very, very best to deliver a great atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service.
In the end, the customers will be the judge, regardless of my plans.
See you at the moon...soon!
Scott Plath

I've been spreading the word, and can hardly wait until Moonstones opens! A big fan of Cobblestones (both the bar, food, and ambience) I have faith that Scott & Co. will bring a much welcome addition to the food scene in this area. By all means count me in if you need any "sampler" customers for pre-opening feedback! ;0)
