There's a new ice cream shop in Lowell.
It hasn't opened yet, but a trio of downtown biz owners are scouting small, vacant storefronts as we speak and expect to open in the next 30 days. "We want to do it fast," said Andy Jacobson owner of Brew'd Awakening, who is partnering w/ Matt and Franky Descoteaux of the Mambo Grill in this frosty foray. I sure hope fro-yo is part of their chill scene.
Has frozen yogurt ever exisited w/in the confines of the Mill City? Not on my swatch. Sometimes there's nothing like a fresh dollop of soft serve to get you through the day. Especially when it's 92 out. Can't wait for that. The consistency, I find, is far superior to hard pack. Just that name "hard pack" leaves me cold. Anyone excited about this? I hear chocolate will play a role in this venture too. A chocolate shop in Lowell is long overdue. Really, what are the kids in this city doing? Crack? They, we need a shop like this.

I go to the old Burbecks, now Garys on Pawtucket Street for the vanilla soft serve almost every day. It is much richer tasting than any other soft serve I've tried.

Thanks Softee, is that really your name?
I never liked Gary's too much, too fat-full. They refuse to carry any low-fat options. For me that's a dealbreaker. But Im intrigued by their van. soft serve. When the mood strikes, there's nothing like it.

Speaking of non-fat, I hope they carry Richie's Slush! It's my favorite cool treat for hot days. It is available on 38 in Wilmington, but that's too far! Anyone know of an Italian ice that's closer?

Sorry to hear that you don't like the real full fat ice cream - but I understand. The reason we don't carry low-fat is that I made a decision years ago to only do natural - no fillers or artificial ingredients. Fat replacements are all chemical bulking agents and I just don't think they're very healthy.
Peter - if you like slush - Gary's makes slush in the middle of the summer season...3 or 4 flavors.....

Gary's slush is deeeeeeelicious!
The soft serve is excellent too - I am very happy to learn that it is made with all natural ingredients.

Hey GG...
Rest assured, there are really only about an added 40-50 calories in real vanilla soft serve. The fact that it's all natural should make up for those added calories. All this ice cream talk is making me want one!

I love the coffee and the service that Andy provides at Brewd' Awakening and I also love the food at Mambo. The teaming of the two greats will be an excellent additon as an ice cream shop downtown. I would be great to be able to take a walk for great ice cream rather than getting in the car!
