Hope at paradiso

caffeparadisologo.jpgJust went in looking for the new cupcakes Caffe Paradiso is rumored to be carrying and was pleased to meet Dwey. The friendly new manager said changes are afoot at the Palmer Street italiano rest. Just the fact that he acknowledged us pleasantly was a big change. No more surliness or cold shoulder from a member of the staff had me thinking we took a wrong turn and ended up in the Coffee Mill.
It's amazing how much attitude can affect the feel of a place. I'd come here again if he stays on. Dwight will be adding more options to the a la carte menu and perking things up w/ fresh-cut flowers on the tables and red and white checkered table clothes he said. It was hard, but I refrained from suggesting he loose the Italian sports' flags. Is it just me or do those tacky NASCAR-looking banners bother you too? Doesn't rev my engine. Anything would help. The décor is not tired as much as static. It needs a makeover. The key lime pie cupcakes were being defrosted out back so we could not lay our eyes on the gems. They come from the Enchanted Bake Shoppe in Haverhill, which I hear is making our city friends to the north happy. Anyone been?

Peter :

I'm trying to be in an agreeable mood today, but I do kind of like the sports flags and soccer scarves. To me, it gives it an "authentic" feel.
What is the best bakery in our fair city? I've seen seveeral and been to a couple but am curious as to which is considered "THE" bakery. Also, where would you get a serious cold-cut platter in town? Have a Great weekend!

JK:

I've always been vocal about my displeasure with Pardiso. I never minded the italian flags, but I did have a problem with my food sitting on a plate in plain view for over 15 minutes waiting for a server to get around to bring it to me. My funny story includes my order of a Saphire and Tonic. The bartender asked what was in it and how to make it. Then I had to pay 11 dollars for it. Quite pricey in my opinion. Haven't been back since. I hope things will change.

Dear Gourmet Gal!

Thank you, and your readers for your kind words, praise and making us aware of the issues that concern you the most as our valued patrons. Yes, there are a lot of changes we would like to see going forward. Especially with regard to service. There isn't anything that irritates me more than unfriendly or ignorant wait staff. However, "nothing changes if nothing changes". With that in mind I would really like to hear from people like Peter and JK, to find out what will make our Café' more inviting to them as well as others who haven’t been back for a variety of reasons. If mixing up or changing the Decor is something that needs attention, then I'm all for it…I'm by no means a NASCAR fan either. We have daily specials that are not normally on the regular menu; Eggplant Parmiggiana, Baked Stuffed Chicken Breast, soups etc… and for the cold-cut platter people, please give our Traditional Antipasto a try! One thing everyone really needs to realize is that we are an Authentic Italian Café, not a restaurant. People come to relax and enjoy an aperitif or any of our numerous ‘Tini’s” Most enjoy an Espresso or Cappuccino with deserts that are direct from Boston’s North End, as well as The Enchanted Bakery… Which by the way the Key Lime Cupcakes are ready!

Hope to see you all again real soon…

Dewey
