Things are looking up fellow foodies. Moonstones is on track in Chelms., we hear their bar is being installed today and Mr. Jalapeno, formerly Mike's Cafe on Merrimack St., appears ready to pop. I know our friends at the Mambo Grill across the way are less than pleased by this direct hit, and we can't say we blame them, but it is exciting to see new eateries opening downtown. Blue Taleh is on its way, by the end of the month at least, and to recap, the Village Smokehouse is not dead-in-the-water! And this is just the short list. By the spring Lowell will be shirking its reputation as gourmet wasteland and stepping up to destination status. Any other spots I missed? Anyone feelin' the food love?

I can't wait for more dining options in "the Downtown"! Hopefully all this competition will raise everyone's game. Maybe the city could broker a shared marketing effort that enterprising restaurants could fund? Just a thought.

Brian,
I have heard that people are working on that very effort. Specifically LZ Nunn, the director of COOL. It is a no-brainer, restaruants will lift this city up by the bootstraps. Bring em' on. Now we just need to support them.

I am also very excited about the new restaurants, I live in one of the condos downtown. We eat downtown 2 to 3 times a week. I also try to shop and use the services downtown whenever I can. With all of the new condos and apartments that have been built, we do need to educate the residents of what downtown has to offer. The only way the downtown will succeed is with the support of the residents and neighbors. I urge everyone to make an effort and venture downtown check out how far it has come over the last few years.

just came from "Rio's" at 25 Andover St on Valentine's Day. Place was empty.. seniors and college folks are missing the feed of a lifetime..Brazilian style buffet, all you can eat, including coffee and dessert for $9.95....had a couple Heinekins and it was still under $20. Hate to say i told you so, but you'll miss it when it's gone. My waitress Donna walked me through the whole buffet 'cause i was a virgin there. What a sweetheart, checking in on me , but not pestering me....please at least give it one shot..!!!
