Haverhill's loss is Lowell's gain

Went to Etsogo in dt Lowell last night and I’m still feeling the love. Sat at the sushi bar (love that) and ordered yellow tail and salmon sashimi because it looked so fresh — and the chef told us to. He was right on. There was nothing fishy about these sparkly, clean cuts of fresh fish. The ginger was also perfectly strident and plentiful. A sucker for fancy rolls, I ordered the Green Dragon — a beautiful display of eel and cucumber topped with avocado, masago and a slightly too sweet sauce. But the star of the night was the Out of Control Roll. This powerhouse of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, cukes, avocado wrapped in seaweed packed the protein and taste.
Tuna and cucumbers rolls on the side were good palate cleansers. The green tea was warming, but I’m not sure it was green. Tasted barley heavy. They were out of Kirkun beer, so Sapporo had to do for gourmet guy. Decor is nothing to blog about, but when the sushi is this fresh I'll do w/o the fru fru. Also BIG BONUS: the tab came to $37 smacks. Unheard of for a decent sushi feed.
Weird, we were the only ones there the whole time. Maybe Lowell is dead mid-week I thought as I turned the corner to Market Street on our way home. But Centro was abuzz!? Fellow foddies, we must support Etsogo or, like the last three places to open here, they will be a flash in the pan. 16 Merrimack St., 978-323-7878. Delivery too.

I agree - Etsogo is awesome. But don't just enjoy the sushi. Everything they serve here is memorable and perfectly presented. Suggestions? Try the tempura, the curry dishes on the Malaysian section of the menu and the bento boxes, a true bargain for lunch or dinner. The place is a rising star on the Kearney Square dining scene and the owner Janet never forgets your name.

Went there this evening - the sushi was great. The place was busy, I don't think they'll have a problem sticking around. I'm sure we'll be regulars (plus, they deliver - damn, sushi delivered? that's a bit too much luxury).

Staff was very friendly too, even though they were barely keeping up with the crowd.

We live downtown and this is the only place from which we will order Asian food for delivery. We love the combination of Japanese, Chinese and Thai offerings and often go for a combination order. In many cases restaurants that span several cuisines prepare none of them well. This is not the case with Etsogo! Everything we have tried has been delicious! We hope they will stick around as Etso is a huge asset to the downtown neighborhood.

We went to Estogo for lunch on Wednesday for the first time. We thought it was great! I had a chicken dish with scallions and onions and hubby had beef curry. Fried rice was not greasy. We also live downtown and hope this restaurant will be around for a long time!!! On another subject has anyone been to bambu? We went there for dinner tonight and it was a "very strange" experience....

My fiance and I go here almost weekly for sushi. It is fast and fresh. The service is also EXCELLENT. One cold winter night we went inside to order to take-out, while we were sitting and waiting, they handed us two steaming hot cups of tea. This was a step above the rest if you ask me. We find ourselves taking the short drive down the street for sushi (our favorite) more and more, instead of traveling out of town to some of our other sushi haunts.

Also, I find we can always count on Estogo to be open on Sundays and some of the hours that many other downtown venues have left us disappointed.
